Cruise Control Retrofit - FIN

Nothing special...I just wanted to share that I ordered my Cruise Control Retrofit Kit, and from the reading the other posts on this forum, the install looks like a quick and simple task.. :D

and cruise control is great... especially for those annoying "average speed" cameras that are absolutely plaguing our motorways now!

Pre Oct 04... it is really simple, takes about 10-15 mins :)

After Oct 04, more complicated as the wiring isnt present :(
 
that's why I asked, I know you can buy the kit will all the wiring for a post 06, just waiting for someone else to have ago first.
 
I can donate the wiring kit that came with mine if someone wants to have a go...

but not the switch :evil:
 
My CC arrived today. Just before dinner, I installed it. :) It was an easy DIY, with the exception of fiddling around to realign the mounting clip :x for the one little screw that held the lower cowl panel in place...

Here is a pic, nothing you all have not seen before....

Hi, I am new here, I have just purchased a Z4 3.0 (Oct 2004) around 25K miles. I was just wondering how easy would it be to retrofit the CC? and how much am i looking at for one of those?

Check if you have the wiring first before you buy it, IIRC the kit is around £150, easy if you have the wiring, harder if you don't.

Welcome... check out my thread and subsequent fit here.

To summarise if your car is built before Oct 04 the wiring should be there and itll take you 15 minutes. Cost of the Part was £150 and came with the wiring for cars post Oct 04. I have scanned in the instructions which include fitting the wiring but it is alot harder... My dealer quoted me another £150 to fit!
 
Reading the BMW fitting instructions there are 2 cut off dates 10/04 and 01/06. It becomes harder for each. The earliest as Mike suggests is easy, in fact simply plug in. After 10/04 you have to build in a wiring loom connecting 3 components and for the last change and a repair lead in the engine.

If you drop the lower cowling you'll see the loom in place if you have it. It's a small lead with a tiny plug hanging to the left of the column

BTW- BMW UK have 2 switches in stock - priced at £74 each (plus VAT). You could simply modify your own cowl to fit and halve the cost. If you need the loom then I'd guess Mike's figure is good for the full kit

Just thought I'd let you know that I managed to get the CC kit retrofitted at the weekend, part cost 150 from the stealer and it was only a 10 minute job ( pre Oct 04 so all wiring already in placed, simple plug and play). thanks for the help! now just need to find a stretch of road that actually allows me to make use of the CC for more than 30 seconds at a time .... :driving:

I left the invoice at work so cant confirm what the part no of the CC kit I purchased was but checking on http://www.realoem.com it is 65710153114. go on it and double check that it is the same for your particular model (mine was a 54 3.0i). I'll double check that the part no. from realoem matches with the one I purchased.

CC switch alone is part 61.31.6.940.989 £73.62+VAT. Available from UK stock. If you have a pre 10/04 model then you can simply cut/file/dremmel the lower housing and clip it into the column.

Later models you need a kit of switch, loom and housing that is around £150 (65710152654 or 65710153114) unless you fancy a bit of retrofit wiring
 
You sure about the dremel bit? The how-to I saw from a 2003 car was simply plug and play with removal of existing bits - but not by dremel though?

Hi Ben, just check that the built date of your vehicle (not registration date), mounted on a plate inside the bonnet/hood, if i remember correcting its a black plate on passenger side fenders. if it is pre Oct/04 then it is simply plug and play, if not you'll have to mess about with the wiring as per the fitting instructions given above. As to where is the best place to buy that i am not sure, I got it from stealer just because it was convenient for me and not sure where else you can get them.

p.s the part no is the correct one (well, it works on mine anyways) :P
