Cruise control and bends

I know its a little childish, but I do enjoy setting the cruise control and see how far I can get without cancelling it. There are a series of bends just heading out of Dumfries on the A701 heading to Glasgow. The unrestricted sign is where I set it at 60 and then enjoy the bends. The 1 series managed them okay, the 3 series not and yet to try the Zed on them.

Anyone else play in the bends with cruise control on?

Not really but on the way to the national meet I managed 27 miles on the M40 during the day time without cancelling at 80.

I have done this a few times! on my 330i though if the bend is too sharp it turns the cruise control off on its own.

Any application of the brakes turns off cruise, so perhaps the stability control system is kicking in on the sharp corner and applying the brake to one or more wheels?

Isn't that somewhat disconcerting as you could float around the bend rather than having some 'drive' :|

That may be the case then because there is a tight bend I go around not a very fast one but it flicks the cruise off and I don't touch the brakes.

It does feel funny when it flicks off and you just start slowing down even though you don't want to.

My 3 series cruise control slows me down through a tight bend then picks up again as you go out of it. Tis an odd feeling. It has a 'brake function' and you go in 5 mph steps. Really strange the breaks coming on as you knock the cruise control down. Unlike the Z4.

I used to drive the A66 heading west from Keswick and the dual carriageway section was my game. Could I keep at 70 mph all through the section until it became single carriageway again. Back then (1980) there was no cruise control and I was driving a mini pickup. It used to put the wind up my passenger as they didn't always twig that the road had turned to dual carriageway. The only way to do it was to use both lanes through what were blind corners - very blind if it had been single lane road.
