Creaking noise from within centre console / gear lever area

Hi guys,

Have noticed a strange 'creaking' noise coming from the area within the centre console; gear lever / cigarette lighter box. It sounds a bit like creaking plastics, infact I thought it might have been a loose ash tray etc.

Seems to be present atleast 10mins after eng starting and once the car has been run at high speeds eg on the motorway. It tends to just creak at random but also whenever going over small bumps/notches in the road surface.

Any thoughts??

I have some squeak/creak coming from down the tunnel area when the car is cold... Probably rubbing plastics as the cold is making them contract. Its a bit of a pain to remove all the plastics over the tunnel though

The best place to start is probably near the ash tray - its by far the easiest to remove! Remove bits till it disappears and then start padding i'd say - good luck!

Sounds Heath Robinson but jam a bit of cardboard in where the dash meets the console. If it goes away you need to find something more sophisticated to do the job.....I have a toilet roll tube that does the job just fine

thanks for the advice. Strangely when commuting from/to work I havent heard that noise. Only when doing longer trips... Must be something expanding/contracting
