Creaking noise as roof OPENS.

Hi All,
I have just realised that I must have had a senior moment in my last post. The noise occurs as the roof is OPENING, and not closing. Cheers. :| :| :driving: :!:

POST MOVED

I've got a similar creak but this happens when the roof closes,it seems to come from the rubber seals around the boot lid :?
Tried putting Gummi Pflege on all the seals which helped a bit but hasn't stopped it completely
Can't see any signs of damage but the cars still in warranty so not losing any sleep over it :)

ditto.

I had this. It was the two rubber boot lid bump stops that rest on the black disks on the boot lip. A spot of grease on them and sound is gone.

Hi Maniac,
Sorry for the delay in thanking you for your "creaking roof/boot lid" fix, but I haven't been on the forum for quite a while. The weather in N/W Scotland is foul today, so I shall attempt the fix tomorrow as better day forecast. Where exactly do the items live that require greasing, or maybe petrollium jelly (Vaseline) would be less messy? Are they in the boot space, or are they attached to the lid that closes? Many thanks. Kind regards, Richard.

Open the boot. At the edge of the lid are two plastic bump stops. Correspondingly on the edge of the boot loading lip are two black metal discs. Apply some lubricant to either the disc face or plastic bump stop.

Hi Maniac,
Many thanks for the perfect fix. I did use the less messy Vaseline, thinking of items getting grease on them being put into the boot. It's dry here today but very windy.
Have you ever considered changing your exhaust system for one with a more sporty note? I must say I like a sports car to sound like a sports car, and not an excited vacuum cleaner! Mine is the 28i manual box, and I see the exhaust back box has a vacuum unit fitted to the o/s tail pipe with a flexible pipe coming from it, which no doubt complicates replacing it with an aftermarket system. Do you know exactly what purpose this appendage serves, and where does the flexible pipe end up?
Again, many thanks for your help. Kind regards, Richard. :driving:

Hi Richard,

The vacuum unit opens a flap in the tailpipe on start up to give a rougher sounding start then closes again quite soon, you can pull the pipe off the unit and blank it with a small bolt or a golf tee etc and tie wrap it up securely and see wether that gives you an acceptable exhaust sound whilst driving, it does'nt harm anything doing this mod. If not it's no problem to change your exhaust to an aftermarket one, you just do the mod as described. Hope that helps. Not wishing to tread on Maniac's toes but it's been a few days now and I learned the mod from him anyway! Regards, John.

Hi John89,
Many thanks for your post. I shall try your simple, and economical resolution. At least if it is not acceptable it is easily reversible. Good motoring to you. Kind regards, Richard. :driving:
