Crazy quote for bumper spray...

Just had a quote come through for filling the rivet holes left by the number plate plinth and spraying the front bumper. The bumper will be coming off and painted away from the car.

Number plate plinth holes

This bit of flaking paints been doing my head in since I bought the car

£608.00

Time for some more quotes.

Most definitely....that’s a rob off.

Fill the holes yourself and rub down..... it should not be more than £200 max.

£250 would be about right for a top job.
Exactly what I was expecting. I’d be happy to hand over £300 for it, anything over that I just can’t justify.

i did consider this, but to be honest I’d be completely out of my territory. I don’t mind doing mechanical jobs within reason. Also I don’t really have the time to do this at the moment as I’m getting ready to move and need the car on the road.

I suspect a lot of body shops are happy to over charge as it will quite often be the insurer paying.

http://ringmercarcare.co.uk/ These guys have been doing my cars for years. They painted a wing for £150 last year
awesome I’ll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks

Tom, sorry clean forgot about this. Last company I used was the body shop associated with the lotus specialist in Horam. Previously used Hailsham bodyship in the Diplocks. They were actually cheaper and should have gone there again as their work was just as good. Think they charged 150 for a bumper and same for two skirts.

thanks :)

Hailsham would work well for me so I’ll give them a call as well.

Sounds like the didn't want the work! I've had half a car resprayed for that
Been there - 10 Years ago a full colour change on. Big Jeep pickup to a custom paint job in blue and silver for £650. I stripped the car and they resprayed rhe lot. Probably £1knim tiday’s money.

Current price £250-£300 for a show job bumper. Paid that for the F Type SVR front end project and it was glass like out the gun...

Obviously we all thought the £608 quote was bad, just had motor care Tunbridge Wells on the phone with an estimated cost of £921.00 I couldn’t help but burst into laughter down the phone

It looks like I have dodged a bullet there as their reviews are diabolical. I’ve been following up the advice given on here and hope to have a reasonable quote by this time next week.

Just trying to get a feel for quotes, are these prices for a complete respray? This is the 150-250 mark. Obviously as there’s not a colour change it should be cheaper? Or am I talking out my arse! Lol

Yes so I’ll be driving the car to them as it is minus the kidneys, they will remove the bumper, bmw badge, and lower grill. Then they will rub it back and fill the rivet holes. Then give the bumper a full re spray, and put it back together.

That’s the plan anyway.

Regardless of the individual circumstances I struggle to argue with yoir self deprecating comment :).
Doesn’t matter at all if a respray or colour change. The bumper will be flatted, chips filed, primed (for adhesion) flatted again, sprayed, baked, polished and returned or fitted.

I did just deliver a bumper skin to them both times. Might explain the cheaper prices a bit.

For anyone that’s interested in how I got on I have received a quote from Hailsham auto body shop that’s come in at £300.

Given the ballache of going around and getting quotes etc I’m more than happy with that. Roll on the 30th.

Thanks srhutch for the recommendation

Picked the car up and it’s perfect. Paint match is very good and I can’t find the old holes at all :D

Just need to get the grills, small plate and new badge on now.
