2.6 years in with a 2006 3.0Si Sport Auto
When I first got this car I thought, (knowing better due to age) it's feeling every bump because it's a sports car. Then last spring seeing the condition of my front strut braces in the towers made me worry so I replaced them, which had me worrying about the condition of the back top strut mounts, which I Ignored but knew they were as bad as the fronts.. I did not really concern myself with the shocks as I just wanted to get it done so I could drive to work the next day. That and I was kinda strapped to replace them at that time due to children s**t and my daily had taken a crap a few days before. Deep story, wont get into it.
Jacked the car up two weeks ago and dropped the back left side shock out to see if it compressed. Of coarse I knew with a 12 year old car they had probably never been replaced and was not shocked when the one did not bounce back.
It should not have taken me this long but I'm glad I finally replaced them.
While I had it up I noticed the rear left stabilizer bushing was literally broke and peeling out. If you have never seen one like this, it looks like it had been pealed back like a banana.. Bushing had spit and I guess I pushed her too hard a few times and broke the stabilizer arm on the outside. Heard the rattle a few days before which is why I parked till I could jack it up and poke about. So new bushings and shocks and stabilizer bars got ordered all the way around.
Weather has been great the last couple nights so I got my ass busy replacing it all. Only real probs I had was getting some of the boot carpet back in. Defo need a couple new clips so on order.
Tonight, dropped off the jacks and ran her up to get gas. OMG, she feels GREAT. Pulls a little to the right now, but expected after all that crap apart so have an appointment on Sunday for a 4 wheel aliment.
So the moral of the story....
Our cars are OLD, they need these bit and bobs replaced. Don't put up with that crashy, jarry ride. Update the parts that are serious parts of your ride.
Also, I apologize for no pics of replacing as I was seriously involved in getting this done myself and watching tube vids that helped me get it done right, the 1st time. Tho there were more than a few pesky bolts, nuts, that made me cuss.
Bright side, I'm still not a member of the broken springs thread. Both still have one blue do on them and in good condition.
Man I love my Z4.
