Crashed my zed! help!

Back from Coopers. MOT pass, winter health check no issues apart from low tread on rear tyres, which I knew already and was planning to replace them shortly anyway.

They have said they don't anticipate any damage beyond the bumper having inspected the car, so the only required work will be a bumper repair and respray. This will require taking the bumper off, obviously, and also replacing the bumper mounting. They have quoted me £950 inc VAT (!) though they immediately dropped it to £850 when said I didn't believe it!

Breakdown (approx figures) as follows:

Labour - panel / mechanical, 3.5hrs, £160+VAT half of this time is allocated to removing and re-attaching the bumper, with only 2 hrs devoted to repair
Labour - paintwork - 4.3hrs, £215 +VAT
Paint& sundries cost = £165+VAT
Parts - rear L & rear R bumper attachment, £35+Vat each = £70+VAT. Bumper Carrier £50+VAT
Extras - EPA charge (disposal of broken bits) - £10+VAT, Parking sensor reset - £100+VAT

They said they can't refurb my alloys as they are split rims (108s) and the only option is to get them replaced (ha!)

So apart from the alloy nonsense, does any of the above look excessive or unreasonable? Am I likely to get as good a job (or better) by going elsewhere?
What has been good about this exercise is that i've got a full breakdown of parts numbers required which would make other dealers' jobs easier I suppose.

Mike

Considering thats a deal, i dont think thats bad!

In all fairness, that doesn't seem too bad. When some ****** hit the front bumper on my car, I did all of it myself, bar the body work. Excluding my labour that came to £500 and it was only one broken bracket.

Glad you got through the MOT with no issues and their check reveals no deep damage. - Lucky guy.

I think £850 is way too high.

Tops £300 to remove respray and refit the bumper at a bodyshop. It only takes 10 mins to remove and 15 to refit. Add 10 mins to clip the new brackets in. Add in those parts assuming all needed for £150 gives around £450.

No need for any such thing as PDC reset. I've had mine on and off loads of times.

Tops I'd be expecting £500, but if you're happy with that figure go for it.

As what CJ said, tops should be £300 and no more......

As mentioned before I know someone in West London who can sort it....and also know a good refurb company to do the wheels...

yes you are :) but not alone. I "crashed" my E36 325i at 5/10 mph in the snow because of no rear tread, less damage than you, but still a pita.

p.s. but at least I had nothing to turn off

Thanks all for your advice. I could probably make the trip to Ealing as it would probably only take me an hour's drive which would easily be worth it for a few hundred quid saving - Stark, could you send me the details?

In the meantime I've had a recommendation from a friend for a bodyshop near Kingston, who i've asked for a quote based on the comparative info provided by Coopers.

I have a friend who works here..

http://www.owlsbury.co.uk/

Fantastic work at non dealer prices. Maybe a little far for you though ?

Had a recommendation for http://grimshawandwake.co.uk/ - they've quoted me around £500. Seems much more reasonable than Coopers and on the strength of both that and the recommendation I'm going to give them the gig. WIll keep you all posted on the results!

All sorted. Cost £660 as had the wheel refurbed as well, and therewas some under bumper damage that needed repairing. However, they've done a great job - looks good as new! will post some pics as soon as i get a chance to see it in the light when i've got my camera on me (damn this dark winter!)
