Crashed car advice

Sorry to hear about your car OP.

As everyone else has said, if insurers do call it a total loss or constructive total loss try to get the best deal you can while retaining the car.

As it will probably end up on the "hit list" take plenty of photos before, during and after repairs. A "Cat C or D" wouldn't put me off a car if it happened at 15 years old and I could see the damage.

Hope you get a good outcome.

A 15 yr old Z4 & a 66 plate Fiesta ST :? where is the connection or relevance between the 2 cars or claims ?

Beside's having a chip on your shoulder, for some reason.

Sorry, who are you? Can't remember having any issues with you. You must be one of Wilks' henchmen.

Unless you have them all documented from the last 5 years you would need a memory of epic capacity
I don't have or need "henchmen" but then again i don't have paranoia or personality problems .
All i did here is ask how you found a connection between the op's 15yr Z4 & your girlfriends 66 plate Fiesta ? It wasn't personal or antagonistic , i was simply curious as i can't see any relevance :?

This coming from the guy that takes offence to anyone having an opinion on Lewis Hamilton other than yours. I quote, “Suck it up losers” and “You’re all jealous of him”. No, some people have a different opinion to you, but you jump down anyone’s throat that declares it. Chip on the shoulder? You appear to have a whole sack of spuds on yours.

That will be a chip on each shoulder then... Our paths have crossed but then im one of many you’ve tried to belittle, whilst sat bravely behind your keyboard, so no surprise youve forgotten..

Yawn... Amazing how you've all managed to ruin this guys thread, without providing any input into the topic discussed. Well done

Then why did you suggest a chip on a shoulder in the first place? What relevance has that to do with the post? Then you go on to call Pastry a henchman, What has that to do with the post?

If you’re going to dish it out you gotta take it as well, but not you, you don’t like that, bigots generally don’t.

Well that thread took a detour!
Sorry to hear about your car. If it does get written off you then have the exciting part of finding a replacement

Mine was written off in March of this year after a slow impact. The other car turned across my path as I was crossing a set of traffic lights. I bought the car back for next to nothing, and fixed it up with the payout... and still had money left. Ok the car is now cat d and my insurance has taken a little bit of a hit, but I’m planning on keeping the car until it dies, and it was kinda fun putting it back together myself.

Hi guys,
thanks very much for the comments. In the cold light of day i've now had a good look around the car, there is no damage to the radiator and the side panels have not been displaced out wards. Car still drives perfectly so i'm hopeful the damage is just cosmetic. I'm going to take your advice and if the car is written off i'll buy it back and fix it. I've briefly looked on the net and the parts i need are available albeit not give away prices and not always in great condition. I'd like to think I'm pretty handy with spanners so as long as the bits are all bolt on off I should be ok. prepping the panels for spray is a good idea too. For those of you that have not seen a Zed in Olivine there is a blend to the paint that in some lights makes it look like its shimmering. Hopefully a decent sprayer will be able to find the paint codes!

anyway, thanks again, i'll keep you posted with any progress.

Just curious - what is the reason the insurance takes a hit?

I think the insurance now class me as more of a risk...even though it was the other persons fault and my dash cam proved this. It’s madness. I think the car being cat d will also increase it. Mine is due for Renewal this month and has only risen by £150.

I was lucky in fixing mine that i found a bumper and o/s wing already in sapphire black. The bumper was mint so I saved a fair bit on paint. It’s the little bits that caused prices to rise. The light brackets etc.

The accident i guess PVR the claim/claims would increase the premium.

I actually meant the fact that it is now a cat D that it would affect the premium more than the same value car as a non cat.

Shouldnt affect the cost to be honest, i have a clio 172 Cup track toy with a mate which is cat D and its ok to insure and nothing extra

Ok, that makes sense. Just that you read so often that people comment on Cat D cars for sale that they would be a challenge to insure. Was just wondering why.

Having owned cat c and d cars previously and spoken to insurers about it, they see no difference in the car insurance wise. The car will have been repaired so it's seen as a 'undamaged' car. Well the companies I spoke to anyway. In regards to insurance price will go up even if you have an accident that was completely no fault of your own. You have to declare it, so statistically you become more of a risk or something so premium goes up slightly. Not enough to break the bank but still enough to annoy you.

OP sorry to hear, any pictures? I may have a bonnet and front bumper available if you're interested, although they're in Titan Silver. PM me if you want to discuss :)

Sorry to hear this OP- I did similar a few years back and fixed it my self for less than my excess (I did't need a bonnet though or paint as parts were available in my colour. ) Just a word of warning my insurer (admiral) wouldn't guarantee I could buy back the car if it was deemed a write off so I didn't claim.

That’s surprising, the car is your property so seems a bit much that they wouldn’t let you have the option of keeping it :x
