Crap! I just ran my battery dry!

I left the key on after raising the top last night. Will have to wait for wife to get home tonight to get it out of garage into postion to jump start. I wonder what I've screwed up by doing this. :(

probably nothing at all. i left my radio on whilst messing around with some interior plastics. battery went dead whilst the roof was down and had to jump start it from the battery due to the way the car was parked.

unfortunately for my jump leads, the previous owner fitted the - and + plastic covers the wrong way round and i didn't bother checking the actual battery, so put the leads on the wrong way round.

jump started it using the other halfs 1 year old fiesta. a huge spark, followed by the fiesta's and Z4's on board computers going mental, ensured my pants were brown.

luckily there was no lasting damage to the cars. the same couldn't be said for the jump leads, which were fried :(

so make sure you put the leads on the correct terminals

Thanks for the reassurance. I feared the dreaded passanger airbag light or some such. I will definitely double check the polarity!

On the subject of running the battery down... I was surprised to see that if I accidiently leave the turn signal switch on, the corresponding lamp lights up and stays on after the key is removed. Twice now I have glanced into the garage after dark to see one of the turn lamps on. I don't recall that happening with any other car I have owned.
