CRAP build quality

Why don't you try taking it back to Sandal as it's all under warranty they'll sort it anyway? My Z4 came from Maidenhead but Sandal still sorted all my warranty claims.
I might do to be honest.

Been waiting for Sytner to sort something out but might just forget it and go to Sandals

I have loads and loads of rattles and squeaks, car has only done 9,000 miles now, some of the trim used is absolutely awful and p*ss poor really on a car costing this much, love the car to bits but simply had enough of the quality and ride issues so have swapped to an E92 M3.

I think the general problem with these is that they are built for the US market primarily (i believe might be wrong) as with respect to the americans, the quality of their cars are pretty poor, this also explains the harsh ride which I doubt has been set up for Europe

great drivers car but crap build quality is what i'll remember of Z4 ownership

lol

Just taking the centre console out to fit my intravee unit.

Main screw's missing from the side panels. Now this is I presume the fault of my dealer as they've had the centre console out before. Laughable.

Screw missing but plastic screw cover put back on. Bless.

haven't got the M3 yet, picking it up next week but it is a mile away from the Z4, heavier, not as nimble, driving position is not as good and it doesn't make you smile in quite the same way, but, the M3 is hugely refined, build quality is in a different league all together, has the best engine I have ever ever driven, is a great cruiser but also good in the twisties if you have the EDC set up right, its alot faster as well, over a second more to 100mph, horses for courses, i suspect around the track the M3 would have the edge but not by much

Don't get me started with build quality!!

When I ordered the coupe, was told it had an iPod point as standard - what the div meant with the AUX input, which is complete cack tbh. So after 2 weeks of ownership (and not spec-ing a CD changer due to believing the iPod point was proper) - booked the car in to have the BMW iPod adapter fitted.. they completely balls'd that up.. but that's another story. Soon as I drove the car out of the forecourt, it listed to 1 side like it was pissed. Pulled over after 200yards, thinking it was a puncture (but wait, RFTs shouldn't do that!) - then dash lit up like a xmas tree. Got straight on the blower to Cooper's 'bring it back in tomorrow sir, we're closing in a min' (good service??) - drove it in the morning.. talk about a struggle.. anyways long story short, the steering sensor had failed, so steering wheel had no idea what direction it was facing, because its a serial system I lost traction control, abs, ebd... loved the service guy's response though 'think of it like a TVR now sir' my retort 'there's a very good f**king reason why I didn't buy a TVR!'

Then when they eventually fixed it (after 2 sodding weeks, without a courtesy car for the 1st week!!) - the spanner monkey snapped, yes snapped, the clutch pedal!!!!!!

Test drove a Cayman S the other day... didn't give the impression of speed that the Z does, but build quality is another league..... wanna get one, but that depreciation i'm hit with is nothing short of disgusting!

Bobbywhacker, you got the SHORT end of the stick. I am going to stay away from US built BMWs once the lease on my Z4M is up.

The drop in price is another issue. That just proves that the Z4M or Z4 is not very desirable and the general public feels that it is not worth the asking price. It is fun to drive - but the cost-benefit is against a Z4. :(

I foolishly believed the Coupe would be a bit cult-ish and therefore residues remain high. My housemates A3 3.2 DSG has hardly lost a bean... yet its as boring as magnolia paint!

Definitely staying away from US built cars period in future!! Where's the M3 made? Ze Fatherland?

Bobbywhacker, it sounds like you got a Monday built car. Y'know... Monday... people are stumbling into work still hung over from the weekend and they end up doing half of a half assed job.

Seriously, though, the events that occurred with your car must have felt degrading. Too bad you can't force them to buy back your car.

As for residuals, I'm still taken aback at it's shittyness. I expected it to be pretty robust, but it is not. :( I hope I have better luck with keeping the car until it dies in 2030.

 shouldn't laugh really. Why put the cover on when they know it's wrong :scratchhead:

Yup.

I have had a 330 Sport and an E46 M3, and the build on those was faultless; have to say I have had zero issues with my Z4 so far, my only complaint is the dash plastics don't seem to up to the same standard. 7100 miles so far so time will tell
