Well after getting it back, and the shop detailed it, I'm a little less butthurt. He showed me how to keep it covered to prevent water from getting in there in the first place, but there really was no problem with the drains, and there was no standing water underneath, it just appears that it was the original motor and someone had dicked around with it before and may not have sealed it properly. I ordered a cabrio cover that should keep water away from anyplace it shouldn't be, and the shop took some extra measures to keep it sealed up tight. I still say the DSC pump and the water pump had absolutely nothing to do fluid changes , just poorly designed, as is the location of the top. The DSC pump had failed, the connections had been cleaned. I keptvthe old one, I may send it out to get rebuilt.

I actually don't mind having convertible, but I use it mainly @ night or on cloudy days, just for the simple sake of keeping the interior from getting bleached and cracked by the Sun. I like the way the coupe looks way better, but I came across this one and it was a great price with very very low miles. I just need to drive it more, and hopefully repairs come up 1 at a time, not 4 at a time. It is in mint shape, and runs like brand new, driving it home I forgot how much it cost me to fix, I'm happy once again.

Glad it's fixed OK, I did have to smile at the "I only drive it at night or cloudy days due to sun bleaching" comment, sadly sun bleached interiors aren't an issue here in the UK!

BMW's are not as durable as some would have you believe, they can actually be quite fragile (electronics/sensors) so you can't neglect maintenance - you have just been a little unlucky you've had all the failures at the same time.

DSC/ABS pump is regular failure. BMW charge mega bucks for a replacement but lots of companies the UK do refurbishment at a very reasonable cost, typically around £150. It went on my E39, unfortunately it was too far gone so had to buy a refurbished unit for about £500.

There must be similar places in the US are have you had all the work done already?

Hmmmm that sounds familiar, when my DSC went wrong it got sent away and I too was told *it was too far gone" and had to buy a refurbished one!! Maybe we are getting the wool pulled over our eyes

I was a little suspicious myself, I wonder if there is anyone that spent the £129 and got it back fully working?
