crank position sensor

It's under the starter. Be sure to use a new aluminium screw and follow proper tightening procedure. Info is from TIS, so not sure about access.

Right only just got round to this.

Where the hell is it cos I cant see it from under the car...I can kinda see somethin from above but its certainly not what I have in my hand so if what I can see is the sensor then I have the wrong part.

Yes, that doesn't look right, though all you see in place is a bolt and a wiring harness. AFAIK this is the correct part, based on part number from realoem.com (13627525015): http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-14949-genuine-bmw-fuel-system-pulse-sensor-crankshafttran-13627525015.aspx
(I'm not suggesting Turner as a source, they do happen to have good pictures)

Also, the aluminium bolt normally has an external torx head, yours appears to be internal. Doesn't really matter as long as the threads and length are correct, but it's additionally suspicious.

The part itself is very hard to see in place. It's obstructed from above by the starter, and from below by a rib of the block obscuring direct view. It's best located by tracing any wiring harness running to below the starter. Here's the TIS page from a Russian site (Google translate does a decent job on it): http://tis.bmwcats.com/doc1101806/
The picture is more important than the text. The Bosch part above is the starter.

Yeah cheers It is the 1 I found on the car and can just about see the shape and the external bolt. Ive been back to the supplier of the part and they are swappin it for me so prob wont get chance to fit it till friday.
