Cracking Wheels

Hi guys...first post and typically I'm seeking info as I've not found the right car just yet.
I'd like to know which alloy wheels are prone to cracking, so I know what to expect or avoid.

Thanks
Z

108's but the majority of owners are selling their perfectly fine 108's so mine haven't cracked in 19 years or 100K miles FYI.

So you can pick up a spare set for buttons and just replace them if need be. and keep the rest as spares. i am trying to sell mine will be on ebay soon. had no luck selling them on here.

I wouldnt have said 108s aren't particularly susceptible to cracking, given they are 18s, and from a time when the cars tended to come with normal tyres. Most 19" wheels are notorious for cracking, as they were often fitted with wafer thin tyres, which were usually run flats as well.

108s are prone to corrosion though, need refinishing every few years!

Thanks chaps.

I'm looking at a 2011 30i DCT MSport Highline.
It has 19" 326M alloys so just wondered if they're prone to cracking or relatively safe.

Nooohhhhhhhhh…..

The much repeated views are:

No they don’t crack any more than any other

They don’t crack if you use non run flat tyres

They don’t crack if you use non runflats that are a higher profile

They disintegrate like hand grenades with the pin out

I’d say the ratios are 15/20/15/50

Similar mix of views on welding cracks..

All IMHO…

id have said a 2011 car on 19" wheels, its extremely likely they would have been repaired for a crack already - possibly multiple times.

i'd say any 19" wheel with runflats is prone to cracking. BMW seriously dropped the ball with their wheel sizes and tyre choice IMO... a 30 profile tyre just has too little sidewall when combined with runflat tyres.
