CRACKING DEFORMED OE WHEELS

Sorry me again......with more questions

I've been investigating various Coupes for sale and noticed a few are showing OE wheel cracking or deformation in the MOT history (showing or noted in the advisory section as deformed, cracking or repaired/rewelded
So is this an issue? And if so is there a particular model or location where they "go"? When we bought our e89 a few years ago I remember this was also a "thing" to watch for but didn't know if the e85/86 had a similar thing going on.

It's a large alloy wheel thing that's affected BMWs (and presumably others) for years. Little rubber and hard suspension means the wheel takes the brunt of potholes etc.

The E60 19" spiders were noted for cracking and bending.

I've generally associated wheel cracking/deformation with E89s with 19s, especially when fitted with run-flats.

My first 2 Coupes had 18" MV2s, 108s and 295s (an E89 wheel) with Bridgestone run-flats and I never had any wheel issues with those.

When I got a set of 224s refurbed for my MC none of them needed straightening or welding, but then Ms don't have run-flats!

That's interesting to know, you also mentioned having wheels rewelded........I wasn't aware that that was possible and safe but it sounds like this is perfectly acceptable?

Both my rear wheels were picked up as a failure on an MOT in 2021. 2 cracks in each wheel. The welding was £60/crack but I had all 4 wheels refurbished at the same time for all in price of £480. The cracks were only visible on the inward facing part of the rim and I never knew they were there.
I had already changed to Goodyear non run flats
and the ride was transformed but the damage had already been done.
