Hi all. Today I was driving back from visiting a friend and rather large stone chipped and cracked my windscreen clearly beyond repair. When I got home I rang autoglass and they quoted me get ready for it - £379 :!: :o . Madness. So I found a few other businesses that will replace for under £150 for example this one. http://www.budgetwindscreens.co.uk/?gclid=CLm3-dv7mbsCFQEXwwodqHEAqQ

Anyone ever tried them? I am north east london. Could someone please recommend me a good company that wont rip me off.

You can buy an original BMW screen with green shade band for under £100 on Evilbay but how would you get it fitted?
I think I was quoted £250 from Autowindscreens.

Is the cheaper one OEM with shadeband if it is then that's a good price

After searching around for someone to replace my windscreen on my Z4 today Paul from http://www.glasstecauto.co.uk/ replaced it. Very friendly man and excellent service. He shows good attention to detail and does the work to a high standard. I would recommend him if you are looking to have your screen replaced. He sourced a Windscreen that was of a high quality manufactured by Sekurit Saint Gobain. Paul told me this was the manufacture who made the screens for the Z4. Paul was recommended to me by more than one member from Pistonheads forum. It sounds like he really knows his stuff and I like that he did not rush the job. The cost was £230 altogether.

Great result!-all sealed well I presume?

You won't know yet whether it's a good job or not. You have to be very careful not to nick through the paint when removing the adhesive. If you do go down to the metal then nobody will know for a few years, but water, bare metal and crevices mean one thing .....rust.

Yes the screen seems to be well sealed. I agree with talksthetorque that time will tell but judging by his reputation and the way he carried out the job hopefully no problems will arise. If any do I will be complaining trust me. For now all is well.

Wow that is expensive for a new screen, almost be cheaper leaving it for next year when you change insurance to something which covers it.

But glad its all sorted now.
