Cracked wheels on E89

Hi - I changed from runflats last year after finding cracks on the inside rim of the rears (Ronal 9Js see picture) but I've got another crack a year later. :headbang: Silly quote from BMW to replace it with new. I'm wondering whether to repair it again. It didn't crack at the repair but the one that cracked had two repairs last year... do they get progressively weaker - or whether it was just bad luck? Any thoughts or advice? Anyone know of an alternative supplier? I'm keeping an eye on the for sale pages!

I got rid of mine during lockdown due to cracking, and replaced them with some M5 replicas from Avant garde

Nice, I've been considering something similar for mine and liked those. Some questions - did they fit without spacers, and did you manage to re-use the TPMS sensors (and if not where did you find them)?

clarker63....No spacers used and although mine is an LCI car it was not fitted with any TPMS sensors👍
that helps a little as all the costs can add up - there's a lot of things to consider when choosing the right wheel, so its great to see what people have on theirs..

I got mine from bmautosport.co.uk, no spacers required.
I dont have TPMS sensors, mines a 2012 so work off the abs ring.

I think the change to tpms came in 2014 sometime after the lci was introduced

So how does that effect the purchase of new wheels? What has to be done because of tpms?

You need to transfer or purchase new tpms units to the wheels you are buying (if your car actually uses them) :?

I am pretty sure mine does. So a new set of wheels + new tyres + tpms type stuff = quite expensive.

Yes I was interested how successful people had been in transferring them..as this could be significant amount on top of the wheels..

My September 2013 lci car has normal valves & uses the abs reluctor rings for the tyre pressure warning system, so I’ve no experience of changing the sensors over.

Rob, I thought about reusing my original ones but instead I bought these new genuine BMW ones for my new wheels and they worked straight away without me having to do anything other than initialise TMPS on iDrive

Price was good and the guy was great to deal with and I had a query on a Sunday and he was back to me within 10 minutes

Im sure you can purchase a kit to reuse the old sensors in new wheels, I think it is basically new seals for the valves.

Useful, thanks Andy. I originally saw £100 per wheel which would have been too much. I'm also contemplating having two sets of wheels, and refurbing the old ones (I still like the look of them), and deciding which replacement ones to go for takes some time!
