How are the dealers with this now are they accepting the wheels are garbage?

shambolic, I am gutted for you mate. We are probably driving on fairly similar roads, so guess I'm probably on borrowed time. :( One wheel would be "unfortunate", but 2 is unacceptable.

Please keep us updated on this, and I'm guessing you'll be visiting Douglas Park? If you want details of the Dealer Principal, PM me. Good luck in getting it sorted.

Maybe its time to start thing about that new SLK...? :?

Cheers mate the car hasnt been used much as wee bought a wee vitara for cold weather work. I managed to get away to get tyres fitted in Helensburgh and I half expected the wheels to be gubbed!
I'm working all weekend but I will probably be passing town head or hillingtonat some point tomorrow.
The car is due for it's first service too. May try and get both done at same time.
I took the photos as you can see no tyre damage where crack is so defo not potholes.
The wheels are lovely but obviously not fit for purpose.

Dealer was going to replace both my passenger side ones month or two ago.....worth a try.

Want the Customer Service Managers details at BMW?

Sorry buddy. Been there. I was livid. Shocking quality these cars for what we've paid.

Be forthright and insistent with the dealer. Happy to lend my voice if needed. They will test the wheels but will likely replace them. My argument is still that they ruined two good tyres but they simply dont want to know.

Good luck fella!

Cheers lads I will be going in forearmed with all your cracked wheels showing that they are not fit for purpose!

Dealer today "we will get your car in while doing service (on Wednesday) and measure them if they are 2mm(%) or under if more then you've hit a pothole and it's your fault so you may have to pay or make a contribution"
Also "it's to do with the runflats and no give in sidewall and low profile of tyre and all the potholes this causes the wheel to crack as alloys are soft metal"
Me "so in effect these style of wheels are not suitable for the roads we drive on and are not fit for purpose then? " :poke:
Dealer "I'll order two in anyway so we have them if we need to do them on Wednesday"

Watch this space!
Ps £12 for a curtesy car per day. I tae I this charge is for service only as I'm not paying for a car if my car is off road due to a warranty issue, when it was in for rear lights they gave me a new z4 for 2 days free!!
And first service 2 years approx £350 Inc brake fluid change, oil change and filters ???

Went to hillington today as I was passing. Booked in Wednesday, don't suppose it matters we bought it from townhead as both Douglas park?
Dealer principles name and contact details would be great, thanks

Cheers got PM
Would not attempt to weld an alloy as you are applying heat to an already weakened spot on a soft metal.
The tyres are staying inflated so not causing a problem. The car will not move till Wednesday to travel the 20 miles to dealer so will be fine
Will let you know how we get on and I would take yours to Kwikfit and bung the guy £20 to take off rears(probably all 4) and inspect them, as I tried to look several times at rears but could see any issue until they were off on Friday.

Both rears replaced today under warranty by Douglas Park in Hillington. Rear light done too and service
Well done BMW

That is GOOD news - really pleased for you! Good for Douglas Park in replacing them, though wonder if the extended comprehensive warranty would cover them?

I actually spoke to my sales guy yesterday, since mine is now 6 months away from being 3 years old. I think I'm still planning to keep the car though.

Good news indeed. Lets hope these replacement wheels are stronger, as many of us are heading for out of warranty/extended warranty periods and I'm sure none of us need to repeat this debacle when there's no warranty.. not at £450 a wheel!

Beemer I would get it up on a ramp or get wheels off for a look. Remember mine is 2 yr old and under 20k and they failed.

Glad it's sorted Shambolic......I am not hoping to sound negative, but I had two rears changed hoping that a newer wheel would have had its issues fixed, but one of them still cracked again. Can I ask would you consider a different style of wheel, if it happened again? I think BMW wold be up to paying for them. I paid for 1 and they paid for 3.....just gives you peace of mind. I have hit some huge pot holes in the last month or so, and my wheels have been fine....

I'm still under warranty if it happens again I'll be looking for all four to be done for a different style.
