Cracked rear 326Ms

Hi all

I know that this subject has been done to death but I can't seem to find the right thread at the moment.

The dealer has just told me that both rear 326Ms are cracked and are obviously refusing to replace them under the extended warranty. I am ridiculously careful around potholes so this is obviously very irritating, but has anyone ever succeeded in getting BMW to replace them for free?

I have also been told that they can test them for me to find out whether they have buckled (presumably so that they can assess whether they will pay out or not), but apparently the wheels have to be sent away to be tested and it is necessary to pay for new wheels before this is done. Is this normal; it strikes me as slightly odd?

I had this a few years ago with 18" wheels on a 3 series - you buy the new wheels and if BMW agree they were faulty they refund you.

How long have you had the car ?
 
BMW pay for a wheel ? I had same issue with the 326 and the local dealer run the wheel through the check and it came back as okay. Still BMW would'nt pay...

thye are aware of these issues and will do everything to not pay out
 
I had a few cracked 326's and some replaced under normal warranty and some under extended but in normal situs wheels are not covered under extended.

They do a rolling out test, which they can do at dealer, and if wheel is not buckled more than within 2mm off then it's normally covered, but they've got you on extended warranty rule anyway

I'm currently slowly losing air in my rear offside 326.. haven't had a chance to assess for a screw or nail, but preparing myself for it to have a crack. :(
 
Thanks all. It seems from responses above that the run-out test can be carried out at the dealership, whereas I am presently being told that the wheels will need to be sent away for up to 6 weeks. Might it only be some dealerships that have the relevant test equipment and, if so, does anyone know which dealerships those might be?
 
Why not get an independent garage to check them first, see what they have to say and then compare with the dealer.
 
The runout check bothers me. A crack in the rim will probably show on a rim as runout even if there was none there before!
