Cracked paint

I’ve just had my aero bumper resprayed. It was fine when I fitted it, two days later some cracks have appeared. The painters are saying they don’t know what has happened and want to charge me another £150 to strip it back to plastic and do it again. Has anyone come across this before?
And again my photos are upside down.😡

Seems an odd thing for the paint to crack that way. Given the location as well it seems like the bumper might have cracked as opposed to the paint? Hopefully someone's not bumped into the car without saying anything. I'd take the bumper off and check the other side for any signs of cracks.

There seem to be quite a few imperfections in that area. Had the bumper been previously repaired at all?

Otherwise, maybe someone has bumped it. I don't see how the paint could crack like that without the plastic flexing.

There was damage but it was nowhere near that area. Also the car is at the top of my drive so nobody has hit it. I’m thinking it wasn’t prepared right. Going for a second opinion.

Usually that happens due to rubbish prep work. If it was a while after, I'd say pay them and take it on the chin. But 2 days after fitting, they're pulling the wool over your eyes  cowboys.

If your sure it's not due to a bump. Definitely get another opinion and quote. I'd be tempted to threaten them with small claims court over such a bodge up, if they don't sort it properly. Not something any reputable shop wants on their CV.

I definitely would not be paying them another £150 of my hard earned.

i see this ALL the time... Bare in mind im a professional detailer.

that is just poor prep work, the defect level is unacceptable. Look at the inside of the badge.... But i will tell you, if your paying £150 for a bumper repaint, thats your issue. Cheap paintwork is a BAD idea. pay once and get it done properly, its cheap for a reason.

I'd have to say, that looks like a £150 respray to me. If you consider the cost of the materials and overheads, that doesn't leave much time (or financial incentive) for them to make a decent job of it. I paid £250 for my bumper respray two years ago at a local bodyshop and considered that to be very cheap. Cash in hand, no end of hassle with him dodging calls and giving all kinds of excuses for the delays, but eventually I got it back and he'd done a really nice job. There's a phrase about peanuts and monkeys...

The price I paid was £175. I was at school with the guy who done the job and the owner drinks in my local. The price was mates rates and I though it’s just a freshen up, what could go wrong?
Quite a bit as it happens. If he had said it would take longer to prep it then fair enough, charge more. But he said that price and that was it. The fact the bumper was off the car and stripped down should have made it a bit easier for him.
You live and learn.
Still not paying more money for the paint job.

Mate

Nothing fits !!

Looks like there is clobs of bog around the badge and the grill lines

Why would they put filler where there isn’t damage?

That’s cracked because it’s previous damage and the filler is cracked or it’s the current repair failing

Either way, the repair is rubbish.. go elsewhere

Oh... btw.... we use painters on a weekly basis and painting a bumper like that to any standard is a £300 job

Exactly this.

That’s been bodged but you can’t really complain at that price OP.

OP I see you're a Fifer like myself - if you're looking to have it done right I would recommend taking the car through to Protek in Bathgate - by far the best bodyshop/painters I know of. You'll pay more than £150 (quite rightly) but you'll get what you pay for: https://protek-bathgate.co.uk/
