Cracked Exhaust Manifold

Hi there. BMW Dealers have diagnosed a cracked exhaust manifold on my 2007 Z4 and want £1400 for a new one. Question: has anyone tried welding their exhaust manifold to effect a repair before going down the more expensive route of a brand new one?

It can be welded no problem. But it's quite a tricky job. Don't let just anyone do it. It will need to be heated first and then welded by someone who knows what they are doin.

I was concerned about this possibility when I had my 2 litre. My independent was very matter of fact with me and said - if it cracks we'll weld it - as if it was no big deal.

It never did but it was reassuring to hear him say it could be done.

Local independent specialist managed to weld the manifold at a fraction of the cost of replacing via a dealer. I needed to have the rear sensor replaced too which was unfortunate, but again great job, fraction of the price - thanks for advice.
