Cracked Alloys on a new car

Hi,

Been reading up about cracked alloy issues. Have BMW now sorted the problem? i.e. do new wheels / replacement wheels crack? It would appear from some stuff I've read, and pictures I've seen that newer wheels have had a redesign. Can anyone let me know if that is the case?

Should I be careful on choice of wheels on new car or should I assume the problem is sorted?

If you are choosing a new car now, go with 18" wheels if your roads are rough. If you have smooth roads, go with whatever size you like. Cracking appears limited to 19" wheels. Most of them the 296 design, some 326 design and possibly others, but all appear to be 19" related, and likely caused by the rock hard run flat tyres.
 
Agree with Maniac. There is a redesigned 296 wheel (but of course not because BMW say there is anything wrong with the old one :poke: )but I have no info if they crack or not.
 
Oh one other element to consider... 18" tyres are WAY cheaper than 19". 19" tyres are a complete and utter rip off. I spent £1100 replacing a set last year. My first car cost half that.
 
If you are buying nearly new and not new it can be hard to find 18" wheels. Not one of the 28is I found online used had 18" they were all 19". I was looking for 18" for a better ride - but actually my Z4 with 19" seems better than my 330i M Sport with 18".
