Cracked 296 Wheel - Again !!

Hi all

I know there's been a fair bit of chat about this but I'm now facing into having to replace my THIRD cracked wheel in only 23,000 miles of ownership of the car.

Does anyone have any advice on the position to take with BMW on getting them to cover the cost. I read that sometime they do and sometimes they don't !

(NB - I switched to non runflats about 10000 miles ago)

Would really value any tips from anybody who has successfully got BMW to cover the cost of wheel replacement

Cheers

Threaten them with small claims. I can't see them defending, do you have records for the other failures?

Issue here is the car has non run flats. As much as we know this 'should' decrease the chances of this happening (however they could have been weakened before the change) BMW will no entertain any potential warranty claim with no OEM spec tyres.

So I wouldn't be so sure they will fold that easily.

Sww33 I assume the wheel was replaced before the tyres? Has there been any runout tests done on the wheels at any point?

Yep the current cracked wheel is the drivers side rear and the two previous ones were passenger side front and rear (I have BMW documentation for their replacement). They did a 'spin out' test that revealed they were both beyond a 2mm tolerance for any BMW cost support so I had to pay around a grand to replace them. And yes these two were replaced before my switching to non runflats.

Take your point about switching away from OEM tyres although as the car is too old for an 'official' warranty claim, I guess all I can hope for is a bit of BMW goodwill anyway ??

BMW are doing the spin out test now on the current wheel and I'm waiting to hear back.

The car only has 40,000 miles on it and its on its 7th wheel, really displeased with this situation.

Appreciate your help guys !

There obviously not fit for purpose so you should have no problem with a claim, thats your rights.

Just my own take but the OEM tyre sizes whether runflat or not increase the chances of rim damage
Imo the 255 30 look ridiculously undersized on 9j rim & could be 255 35 or even 265 35
