Cracked 18" alloy on an E89?

OEM style refers to a genuine BMW wheel, doesn't mean it's a rep. BMW refer to their wheels as "style 108" and so on.

Yes, 'OEM' means 'Original Equipment Manufacturer', of course. In this case, a wheel that's sold directly to the public by the supplier(s) of wheels to BMW.

(My experience of other manufacturers is that they tolerate this state of affairs with parts, but often don't like it. I've also seen 'OEM' parts that don't resemble 'OE' parts very closely. )

BMW use the word "style" themselves, it doesn't mean fake when someone sell wheels advertised as BMW style 108" for example.

Yes, I understand.

I bet, though, that there's many a secondhand Z4 with ... er ... 'OEM' ... cough ... wheels that BMW wouldn't approve. :)

I don't think so, they are called reps, and are usually easy to spot if you know what to look for.

In which case, BMW really is to blame for the high number of cracked OE and OEM wheels.

Not sure what exactly you want from the info you are trying to gather. Have you had an 18" wheel crack? Or are you worrying about whether your wheels will crack in the future?
BMW are not alone with wheels cracking either. I have heard of a few different manufacturers wheels cracking and they have been smaller than 18" and probably not running runflats either.
The last one was when I was getting tyres changed. A Citreon something was getting a puncture fixed and the guy told the owner the wheel was cracked. Was a fairly new car and the wheels looked about 15" or 16"

Neither am I. :) Until I have data, I don't draw conclusions from it.

In this case, however, the thread isn't full of people saying, 'Yep, my 18" wheel(s) on my E89 cracked.' In fact, in 25 replies and 425 views to date, nobody's said that.

So, although negative data's notoriously difficult to deal with, of course, it seems reasonable to suspect that the Z4-forum ain't full of E89s with cracked 18" wheels.

(The same, however, may not be true of 19"s. But that's a different question. )

Anyway, perhaps the next few days will produce replies saying the opposite. We'll see, I hope.

So, anyone with a cracked 18" alloy on an E89? :)

Can't see what you are trying to achieve. If one person reports a cracked wheel it won't mean a thing. As others have said, it's a problem on lots of cars. Big wheels, rubber band tyres, stiff suspension and shite roads full of holes.

Nah, Rob. I'm as sweet as the day is long. :D
Anyway, am surprised the thread's had 500+ views and not one report of a cracked 18" on an E89.
T'interweb, eh?

To be fair though the 500 views mean nothing really.
A thread about someone waiting for their refurbed wheels has almost 500 views.

Busterboo, Why dont you just write to BMW and demand information under the Freedom of information act on how many E89's with 18" wheels or 326's they have replaced under warranty ? ...FFS !

I might make a thread saying 'sienna Miller, if you want to shag me don't reply to this thread' then I will be a happy man

"FFS"? If you don't like the thread, don't read it. It's not compulsory. :headbang:
