Couple of M Buying Questions

I have found a very nice example. Going to see it tomorrow.

Couple of M related questions though:

It had the M Run in Service completed at 705 miles. Is this a problem that its early? Im guessing not? Later would be the problem?

It also has been serviced (Oil service) by Birds BMW Specialist. I have checked and they seem to have very good reviews etc. All others have been main dealers. Would this affect the AUC or extended warranty if i wanted it?

I questioned BMW on this and they said no, it can still be covered under both? Does this sound correct or should i be very careful with this?

The guys said that you cant sell an AUC without the correct service history, and this cars is fine. He also said he can put it in writing that its all warrantied, and i can extend as normal etc. What do people think of this?

This car has been sold twice by the same dealer, so they dont seem to worry about getting it back and putting it back throught the system.

Hoping its the one!

Sounds good! Running in service is better early than late so not a problem. AFAIK if the service was done using correct parts etc extended warranty shouldn't be an issue, especially if dealer is willing to put it in writing. Hope this is the one!

What do people think of this Service History?

June 2006 M Service @ 705 miles
Feb 2008 Oil Service @ 8656
Sept 2009 Insp 1 @ 17184
Sept 2011 Oil Service @ 25169
April 2012 Insp 2 @ 26527

I cant understand why someone had the Ins 2 done so soon after. Time duration was 7 Months and mileage was 1400.

All stamped up to say its been done apparently. Just cant get my head round it??

Where was the Inspection 2 meant to have been done, any receipts for it, suppose you won't know until tomorrow. With the price of an inspection 2 you would do anything to avoid it.

Strange :scratchhead:

Shame really 'cos otherwise the history really stacks up in terms of miles and dates.

Maybe the previous owner thought his shims were out or something and had them done early. As Mike said look for evidence and cross check.

could've been some remedial work required which required accessing the valves, so they were reset etc at the same time...

i'd be wary without seeing a bonafide invoice really, it's a £900 job, can't see why you'd get it done as a precaution.

Well apparently this car was sold to the last owner by the same garage and the last owner negotiated to have the Insp 2 done as part of the deal, but can't understands why as it was so soon after the last service.

Don't know what to make of it really, if it should put me off or not. Guess I will have to see if there is any paper work! They said the last owner was an enthusiast etc, they seem to know him as he has purchased a few cars from them!

Ah man, why is nothing straight forward!

Turned out it wasnt the one.

Going to look at another tomorrow.

The History on this next one looks more sensible!

Spending a fortune on trains and fuel going to look at them all!!

Hopefully the one tomorrow is the one!

Apparently the previous owner had it done when he brought it. Met the dealer half way on the cost of it. Did a trip through europe in it then sold it back to the same dealer.

I actually said i would have it, but then woke up this morning and changed my mind and asked for my deposit back.

Another £100 train journey tomorrow!
