mine is automatic so will be slower, thank heavens

if you had a roadster you could put the roof down and actually see the heavens while you thank them!

I guess it depends on how you want to work out the maximum speed. You could calculate the max theoretical speed based on the gear ratio, final drive @ 6,500rpm. However I'm guessing whatever speed you come up with - it would require drafting something rather large and fast in front :?

Not gone above 80mph in mine yet! :D

I did 140mph in a Jaguar XKR a couple of years ago but that was on a track!

OK just done the calculation. A Z4 3.0si on 18" wheels (255/35 tyres) is theoretically capable of 164.56mph @ 6,500rpm. At 7,000rpm (the rev limiter on an si apparently) you could reach 177.22mph.

Whether drag would stop you before you reach this limit, couldn't say. Don't see why you wouldn't reach 164mph though, the power shouldn't be tailing off @ 6,500rpm imho.

Edit: Gear ratios here: http://www.bokchoys.com/differential/GearRatios.htm

The M Coupe was available with an M-Drivers package (possibly not though in the UK because BMW GB have opted not to allow buyers of the new M5 to specify it on their cars). This package lifted, but did not remove the limiter to 171MPH. I'd guess 175MPH is about the V-Max on a standard car. As for the 3.0si - would expect about 160MPH.

Thanks for the replies and the link to the previous forum posting. As expected, faster than my driving ability.

happy :driving:
