From a Health and Safety standpoint, all convertibles expose the driver and occupants to increased levels of car fumes

The latest research has dispelled this myth, in a tin top, diesel nanoparticles cannot be stopped by the air con filter and the nanoparticles are trapped inside the car. The latest studies have shown that the particles are trapped in the brain and cause a stress response in the brain. The stress has been implicated in degenerative brain diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. In a town/city in traffic you are far better off walking, cycling or sitting in an open top car as the nanoparticles are blown by the air and not trapped in what effectively is a closed container.

Yep, there is some truth in what you say re interior pollution Davz...however, having worked and driven on motorways most of my life and seen airborne projectiles, I always feel uncomfortable in an open car...last year on the M1 with my sister in her convertible Mini a lorry had a blow-out on a rear tyre...large pieces of debris flew close over our heads...its a miracle nothing entered....

I was hit in the head by a rogue stone whilst doing 70mph, with the roof and windows down, a couple of years ago. Hurt like hell.

Wouldn't like to be anywhere near a tyre blowout

The nice thing about the Coupé is that you can have the windows wide open with no annoying thrum so 2/3 of a roadster?

We have a saying here in Scotland that would be used in reply to 2/3 roadster....

I know what you mean, I never use the zed on the motorway. I am currently a witness to an accident on the m6, a polish guy thought it was ok to undertake me at 80mph+ (in a temp 60mph zone) and then undertook a lorry indicating to take the slip road.......not a good choice, he got crushed between the lorry and barrier, the scarey bit was when his front bumper flew up and just missed my audi. The dashcam footage is hilarious with my missus screaming her head off!

Exactly, I've sat at a light and absolutely roasted, then the light changes and all is good in the world.

And, in the south , the lids are up most of the summer with the A/C going. Choice is a good thing....

Just returned from nice little tour of the immediate inner Mani area where we live.....its intense sunshine and 30c air temps...still low for time of year...was 35c last year then 46c mid summer....also remnants of thick yellow/orange Libyan dust around ....enjoyed windows down at times for sure but glad not open above as really roasting UV radiation....even with 50 SPF on exposed bits and balding pate! Oakley cap handy then but it is SO much more relaxing with all shut...a/c on auto at 22c..calming, less stressful all round in IOHO....also, poorly pruned overhanging olive and fig trees don't deposit their fruits in the car on certain acute hairpins! 8)

You'll also never look up to see a beautful blue sky nor feel the wind in your hair at speed or really hear the wail of a 6 cyclinder at full chat.

I saw a beautiful blue sky tonight after going under a railway bridge in Central Road, Worcester Park, KT4.

I don't really want wind in my hair for some reason. :roll:

But with windows down I got to enjoy a 3 litre N52 at full chat under the same railway bridge!

I'd much rather have a car that needs an angle grinder to get into it - after all Stanley knives are cheap as chips!

I've seen a surprising number of E85s with the roof up even when the weather's been great. Might as well get a coupe and enjoy the better looking car

Buy a roadster, then sit in that roadster with the roof down in 25+ Celsius, in traffic, with hardly any breeze.

You will soon want to put that roof back up :lol:

It's actually far more pleasant to chuck the air con on when it reaches that temperature (or above), which, for the south east at least, is usually most of the summer.

Yeah - I have to agree with this, the middle of summer is not the time to have the roof down... But a crisp spring morning, heated seats on, hot air blowing from the dash... that's where it's at for me... But, I'm like a vampire - too much sun and I burst into flames!!

That explains it all - since I stopped working I've become allergic to early mornings! :lol:
