Coupe

Alex loves a BMW thats for sure! The E85/6 are definitely a bit of a forgotten gem, I think too many people point and go pah its a BMW but lightweight compared to contemporaries, straight six 3 litre...lovely

I often think they did not get reviewed well in the early days due to being on run flat tyres. Both the E85 and E86 are great cars.

Well we all knew Z4s were great!

But it's good to see them get some "independent" recognition. Coincidentally I test drove a GT86 a couple of months before I bought my first Coupe - it just didn't feel that special. The GR86 may be much better, but is probably what the Toyota should have been in the first place.

Having owned a Z4C - I absolutely agree with Alex and for anyone not aware - Henry Catchpole - when he was at Evo - he rated it 5 stars - and you know 5 stars from Evo magazine means something.

Personally, I think most of the bad press is BMW’s own doing. I worked for BMW in the E85/E86 era. In my humble opinion there was way too many variants. They should never have put a 2.0 in it or the none sport seats or some of the shite wheels. Unfortunately all of that polluted the opinion of many.

If BMW had only made sport 2.5-3 ltr and then the M the car would have been more respected and as a result held their value more.

I remember getting beaten in a straight line by a 120d in a 2.0 Z4 when I was a BMW. To an uneducated car person that’s what they would base the opinion of the car on.

It was the Catchpole review that convinced me to put my order in back in 2007!!!

Obviously a personal taste thing but I`ve always thought the front could have looked better . Something not just quite right . :exitright:

Yeah....I get that...but even with a weaker front, it's still a lovely car

Think that might have led to a few Z4 sales  I feel even more I made a good decision getting into one now! I always look forward to getting in it for a drive

Agreed about the front end but I think that's because the back end and rear 3/4 etc is so good. I think it benefits from a little splitter or something on the front so it has a bit more of a chin, that's what I think it lacks, in my opinion anyway.

I have one on mine and it does help but I think it is the line where the bonnet joins the front bumper . It would look better if the bonnet ended just above the front grills .

yes the 3.0 front isn't great but I think the M version - is pretty much on point...
There seems to be a lot more coverage on the Z4M coupe these days. Just needs Chris Harris to announce he was wrong about it back then, and then for the values to sky rocket - Or have an Middle Eastern sheikh bid on a delivery mileage car for 100k.

It's surprising the Coupe didn't sell in higher numbers though. Autocar magazine did a brief review and seemed to really like it:- https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/bmw/z4/first-drives/bmw-z4-3.0si-se

But I'd agree the M looks much better at the front without those cloudy foglamps! The M rear looks a bit more purposeful too, although there's nothing wrong with the 3.0Si.
