Coupe windows - squeaking/scoring

Hi all. Currently having a couple of window issues on my coupe…
  • There is (sometimes) a terrible squeaking noise when operating the windows. There’s clearly some rubbing going on between the window and the mechanism/seal. It’s much worse on a hot day like today where things are expanded a bit
  • Presumably as a result of this, there is some level of scoring and damage to the windows. Annoyingly, it’s right in front of my wing mirror. Pic attached

Any ideas for how I can begin to tackle this, folks? I suppose I’ll need new windows eventually but hesitant to go that way until the root cause is sorted. I guess there’s probably some debris stuck up there somewhere but I’m not sure how to go about this.

Has anyone been down this rabbit hole before and managed to sort it long term? TIA

Forgot to add there’s definitely scoring although some might just be grease - I can feel the grooves.

Might be the window regulator. I had grease showing up on my clean glass, then putting it up or down starting making a clunking sound. Parts, labor and window reset cost around $700.00 from an indie with aftermarket parts. Fix it before it fails and you can't close the window.

Some glass cleaner and a rag did a decent job of removing the grease. There’s is still a bit of scoring sadly so I will try the polish next.

wiseguy, is that 700 per side? did you get a parts breakdown for that? Was hoping it could be something I try to tackle myself but at that price I may just have to live with it!

My passenger window regulator has been leaving a greasy mark on the glass for 15 years. One day, I’ll get around to fixing it…at that price, it probably won’t be until it gets stuck open or closed!

@jarmsie yep, per side, but the passenger side was $100-200 cheaper for some reason. The indie suggested I fix the driver side, as it was dead, and live with the passenger side grease which could function on for years. I’ll look for my invoice breakdown for ya.

The car has been repair-free for a couple of years, and then bam, $2,000 + this year. Left and right Rear shocks, window regulator, etc. She’s old, and paid for, so I shouldn’t complain.
