Coupe Si Fuel Gauge issue ('06)

Hi folks,

In the last month my fuel gauge has been reading just shy of full when I fill up. I thought it was a one off but it happened again.

Usually the tank is 1/4 full when I refill due to how my journeys and petrol station availability work etc. I always fill up to the first click and then squeeze in a little more til it clicks again.

I get the expected amount of litres in and keep an eye on the trip and get the mileage I'd usually see with the needle dropping in line with this.

This most recent fill I filled up again but did a few more squeezes after the first click and low and behold I got a full gauge.

But here's the rub, I did a round trip to Brighton this week and the gauge only said I used half as much petrol as I usually would. A round trip would show just over half a tank left, this time it's showing 3/4s.

I use Tesco Momentum and have done since the start of lockdown, before that I was on Sainsburys Regular before I was...'educated'. Car gets used once a week for long trips (120 miles) and lives covered, outside.

Any ideas/musings welcome.

The fuel guage is just a very rough guide - just use your own knowledge from fill-up to fill-up and the low fuel light to make sure you've got enough.

My Alfa JTD gauge would show full until I'd done about 150 miles. The 330D gauge says I can do 700 miles on a tank, but the last 1/3rd is gone in about 100 miles.

The Z4M I just fill up at the end of my commute (about 210 miles) and most times the range says 100 to empty (which works out almost exactly what my own fill-to-fill MPG average is). But if I use the fuel gauge I'd be empty by 260 miles.

So basically, I don't trust any of them :P

Thanks mmm-five I guess my issue it was previously working fine and now it's not, happy to go with my gut but just annoying.

All of my Coupes have tended to show there is less fuel left than there really is, judging by how much I can put in when I fill up.

And the last few drops take an age to get in with the pump cutting out!

But I just leave the OBC showing the range and work from that as it seems much more accurate.
