hi all, as some of you may have seen i have rust on my tailgate, OS front & rear wings

I reported it 2 weeks ago today, submitted my service history & they took pics/paint readings

still not had a reply off BMW - is it usually taking this long?

Cheers

Jamie

bloody hell, thats shocking, reported one on my mk5 golf gti & it was in the bodyshop within a week, are you happy to wait or have you complained?

My coupe had new bonnet and passengers door and it took from start to finish, June till the middle of August to complete.

im not too bothered how long the actual job takes, i'm talking about from reporting it to approval

About five years ago they seriously screwed me around on a mini for over four months, then again it was mostly Williams Manchester who are notoriously S#!T but also BMW themselves.
2 year old Mini Cooper S with just over 20K on the clock started rusting on both rear wings, not the usual wheel arches but from inside the vehicle out around where the wings were welded to internal structural parts.
I contacted Williams Bodyshop after 1 month and it was obvious the manager was avoiding talking to me, I could ACTUALLY hear him in the background telling the girl on the phone to say hes not there! Then she told me they hadn't heard back from BMW.
After two months i contacted BMW directly only to be told they had no record of the claim! Williams hadn't submitted it on to BMW's system!
Officially complained to BMW then had snivelling grovelling bar stool from Williams on the phone offering to sand down the paint and refinish the rear wings. when i pointed out to him thats only treating the symptom rather than the cause and i wanted it fixing properly he said don't worry if it comes back they will re do the affected areas as many times as necessary for my entire ownership of the car!!!
Seriously would of expected better at the worst dodgy back street outfit!
Eventually got BMW to take the car back a few months later after they claimed i was being unreasonable by not excepting the dealers "permanent repair!"
Seriously expected me to drive around in a two year old BMW that was somehow letting water in on both sides and then rusting on the welds through the rear wings!

I will never buy another car from a main dealer, your paying a huge premium for what you think is premium service/standards which is absolute tosh! Might as well save some money and buy elsewhere.

Rant over I'm not bitter at all

Surely that shows that it probably takes a good month plus for BMW to approve? I wouldn't think he body shops would be too busy in the summer months. Your issue will be when it is approved.....how busy they are!

However I'm sure csl can give a better indication of when the thumbs up were given from the start of June?

thanks for the useful post :headbang:

If memory serves me right I think from first visit to the dealership to the point where they agreed to do it was about 6-7 weeks. They had to await approval from bmw UK which took the most time.

Also to mention they took my car to have it photographed for evidence. This was done in an approved bmw bodyshop.

I had my M coupe done last year..

From going in,having pictures taken of the rust, photographing my history and driving licence to approval took 3 weeks..

They had the car 3 months and a day to sort out the tailgate...It was getting beyond a joke.

From my initial inspection to actually getting the go ahead from the dealership it took 7 weeks then a further 2 because of how busy they were.

Have you chased them?

Thanks guys. No point in chasing them just yet then average wait time being 6 weeks up to now

I'll ring Bmw next Monday, I rang the place who is meant to be doing it today (macadam body shop ok colne) they said they haven't had anything back from Bmw yet

Do Zeds suffer from rust. As a newbie I have looked in places you never want to look again and I cannot find any rust on my 2005 model apart from one of the joins on the exhaust

just spoke to BMW Uk , 100% approved, painting the whole OS of the car due to two tiny rust scabs the size of a babys fingernail :D

good result. I have rust where the tailgate sits above the rear light cluster housing. taken it into two dealerships and asked them to look at it whilst in for services and none can be arsed with it. I'm going to take it to the supplying dealer and try ...
