Coupe - parcel shelf retractable cover

Hi guys,

Has anyone come across a the situation that the retractable cover/parcel shelf on the Coupe is wet? When I open to boot and it extends the cover out from the roller the passenger side is wet for approx 8 inches from rear of the boot. It is only the cover that appears wet and only on the underside. I cannot think how water could have got in there? Any ideas? Cheers

Mine has never been wet, but the built-in spoiler makes a nice lake after a rain. I've had quite a torrent of water come rushing off the liftgate when I open it. It usually lands on the lip of the frame, though. Is your hatch closing tightly? Is the rear window sealed completely?

Yeah that lake is a nightmare. I always return to the car half an hour after washing with a microfibre to take up the water. It seams to come from nowhere.

As far as I can see the window appears sealed. Its odd the water is on the underside of the cover not the top. A proper investigation will be required this weekend. I may have just got the hose at the right angle to push water through when I washed the car this weekend. Still seams a little odd though. Cheers for the reply.

Underside? Hm, could it be condensation?

That could be interpretted the wrong way given the amount of condensation that would be required to generate the level of water  It is drying though and it has been raining quite a bit the last couple of days so maybe it is just a case of a splash when washing the car or opening the boot. Will report if anything comes to light though! Cheers

eyup, I've seen the wetness on the underside of the roller blind exactly like you've explained. you're not the only one.

I never thought of it being water or moisture, but you could be right. I just figured it was some kind of grease or something to allow the roller blind to operate smoothly, but it accidentally got on the blind itself. I thought the fluid started to discolor the black cover, but it still seems to look okay once the wetness goes away.

I guess that's why I haven't worried too much about it - I only see it seldomly, and it's on the bottom when the tailgate is flipped up, and you can't see it from the top.

I've just witnessed the same phenomenon on the underside of my retractable cover. It's been raining a hell of lot here in the UK over the last couple of weeks and I can only think that the moisture comes in when I pop the boot open. Anyone got any further ideas/fixes? Cheers.

mine too, had a patch where it looked like it had turned the black cover a blue'ish colour? no idea how it got there?

I'd forgotten I'd started this thread. I had the door seal replaced recently because the top right when looking at it was adjar some. To be fair it looked sealed but I had it done under warranty. First time they tried to reseat the door seal but it didnt work so this time they replaced the full lot. I am not sure if this was the problem and will be look next time it rains.

I wasnt sure also whether it was high speed driving that did it. From memory I have only noticed it after rainy motorway trips. It doesnt appear to be grease but just water on mine. Will keep any eye out but I havent seen it for a while now, including a period of time before the seal was replaced. Unfortunately i dont really fancy a rainy motorway trip to find out!

I noticed mine has had water on it too, only seem's to appear on the underside strangly.

Do you guys keep the retractable cover retracted or engaged? Mostly I keep mine engaged and haven't noticed the wet. Today will be a good day to check when I get by the store--raining like heck and coooooold. :x

Ye I keep mine engaged... I notice the wet when I open the boot as the cover comes out of the roller bit more and thats where the wetnes is.

OK, I'll give it a look. Thanks.

Hey I noticed that too! Not seen it lately but the cover's been retracted for a while. Must check tomorrow....

Well I've kept my eye on it past couple of days and it doesn't seem to be wet anymore... hmm

I checked mine this morning and we've had massive amounts of rain over the last two days (same pattern that dropped 3 feet of snow on Washington, DC). No wetness on mine. Wonder if those who did have a little wetness might have gotten a little drip then being rolled up prevented it from drying out properly? Anyway, I'll make sure to keep an eye on that area.
