Hi All,

Looking at buying a saris bones 2 set for my coupe as I need to get my bike to time trials. :winner:
I see that some of you have experience of these.

Question 1 - Did anyone use the hatch huggers or does the standard fitment work well on the glass?
Question 2 - Does anyone fancy selling theirs?

Cheers

Greg

Hi Greg,

I have a saris Gan Fondo Carrier that I use:

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=44787&p=640771#p640771

I use this a couple of times a month for both my cross country and my downhill bike. I also use the hatch huggers, I just couldn't trust the small metal hooks on the glass.

This is a great rack and I reckon I've done about 500 - 600 miles with the bikes on it. :D

I have however just persuaded SWMBO that it would be better for me to be using her Outlander and she can use my car when I'm away so this is likely to be going up for sale. If you fancy it drop me a PM and we can discuss cost

You can't use the standard clips as they will very probably break the glass, you need the hatch huggers.

Best option is to keep an eye on ebay I bought mine for a good price with hatch huggers included, down side is it's yellow.

I have just bought the bones 3 as shown on the pic. Great piece of kit and very secure and easy to fit. Dont buy the hatch huggers make them yourself, really easy. All you need is 2 x 4" lengths of wood dowel, i used pieces from an old broom handle, buy 2 black ratchet straps from Wilko's which are a few pounds at the most. Strap the ratchet straps round the dowel and then get some water pipe lagging, the good thick stuff for 32mm pipe. Cut a 1" slit in the middle of the lagging opposite the split that is already there and feed the strap through the 1" slit and then push the lagging round the dowel, then just tape up with duck tape either side of the slit where the strap feeds through and your sorted. I've used mine 3 times already and they do the job just fine. I could'nt bring myself to pay £15 for something that is easily made for a few pounds.
By the way, i bought my bones new off a trader on e-bay for £114. Some second hand bones 2 were going for £90 + so thought it made sense to go for new. Honestly, its the best rear end bike carrier out there.

Hi Jonny,

Thanks for the offer but I think I'll stick with the bones as I want something that folds up small for storage in the boot when I'm away from the car racing for several hours.
We've already got a roof mounting system on my wife's Mazda 2 which we use a fair bit and I just need something for evening time trials after work etc when we are in separate cars.
Yes I'd use the Mazda and let my wife have the Zed but you want to see where it gets parked. I'd be lucky to have a car left for her to drive home in! :!:

i can't decided on the gran fondo or the bones 2

i want a rack that will fit both my zed and my golf, probably the golf far more

question, does the rear wiper cause problems when fitting racks? my wiper automatically wipes whem i put the car in reverse
