There's no need to Andy. It's an inferiority thing of Coupe owners that causes them to raise such issues on a regular basis
As stated by others, "it's not necessary to defend roadster owners." Roadster owners are to be recognized and complimented for the additional trouble and expense of dealing with a folding fabric top. Ladies and gents, you know the above comment had to be responded to. But alas, we coupe owner's don't have the chance of feeling the warmth of the sun burning down on our heads and faces, or the joy of a "kiss" of dampness on our clothes and interior. 
Yes, roadster owners are to be recognized for their commitment above and beyond the call for the ultimate driving experience.

I would. BMW quotes 4.9secs and they're notoriously conservative - I can believe the car is a 10th second better than they claim. The shop that installed my 3.91 gears said the car should now do 0-60 in 4.6sec easily.

The coupe's faster but how often do you see top speed? The roadster is, however, quicker.
The purist choice is the Coupe, to me its better looking, I've had 3 convertibles already, so I wouldn't want another
The coupe embodies everything thing I want in a car, it’s a personal choice though
I’m not sure I buy the line that “you have to be a pro driver to notice the difference” either, although I haven’t drive a roadster hard enough to know definitely

They are both beautiful cars and each to their own which is the beauty of having choice, but your comment about 'purists choice' bemuses me. It took BMW 4 years to add a roof onto what was designed purely as a 2 seater open top roadster. The coupe added more weight and was just a later after thought.

That's what we're trying to say. There's only 10 kg difference in weight and, at most a tenth of a second or so in 0-60 times. In real world, everyday driving, you will NOT notice it. Pick the one you like the looks of the most and quit worrying about it. You'll like either one.

Yes thankyou. I wont ask anymore questions about the performance differences. I have been reading about a gearbox problem ......... It is widely reported on owner forums that the 6-speed gearbox in the 2006 & 2007 M roadsters and coupes is prone to grinding when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear at high rpm. According to reports, there has been mixed response by BMW dealerships to this issue, some owners claiming to have received entirely-new gearboxes and others claiming their dealer calls the grinding "normal". Is this a big problem or are they just isolated cases?
