Coupe or Roadster?

Yup... GP20 still has buyers remorse :poke: :fuelfire:

You bet I do. Sort of wish I had taken the advantage when the M-coupes were being discounted $12k~15K. :( But well it was a different time and a different financial situation for me.

I'm warming up to the idea of getting a 997S though.

Just to add my two cents.. the Coupe might be slightly more rigid and look better, but personally I've never understood the appeal of a performance car as a coupe rather than a convertible. One of the reasons to get a performance car is to have the wind in your hair, cruise on a sunny day with shades on, etc. all of which isn't possible with a coupe. I was considering a Ferrari 360 before I got my Z4MR but was put off as the convertible costs £10k more than the coupe but couldn't bring myself to spending that much money on something with a hard roof! Roadster gets my vote!

I think the coupe vs roadster debate will go on forever! It's down to personal preference at the end of the day.

I don't really see the attraction of roadsters/convertibles especially in the UK and I would always go for the hardtop version of any performance car, be it a Ferrari, Porsche, Aston, BMW or anything else for that matter.

My personal reasons for choosing a coupe are:

It looks better
It's rarer
I leave it outside and feel it's more secure
It's less prone to weather wear and tear
I like the safety of a roof over my head
It is structurally more rigid
It has less of a hairdresser image
My girlfriend doesn't want her hair messed up
The weather in this country is sh1te
Did I say it looks better :)

It looks better

Hmm, I disagreee with that - if my numbers came up and I was buying a ferrari or the like, I'd be looking for a coupe. For me, a car like that is all about the driving dynamics and anything other than a coupe would be a compromise IMO.

Saying that, i drive a Z4 roadster lol. But then I wasn't buying it purely for it's dynamic ability - I was looking for a car with decent dynamics that also provided fun and a thrill at legal road speeds. Hence why I'm loving getting the top down as it adds to the thrill of the drive without having to drive quickly all the time. For me, there's similar enjoyment from kicking back and cruising with the roof down, and going hell-for-leather in a Coupe...

But anyone who gets 300 days sunshine is a lucky bugger and should make the most of it with a Roadster anyway!

I'd have both.

Coupe for when you want to tear up the backroads and look really good doing it.

Roadster for everyday driving.

You can stick your Ferrari's, unreliable hairy chested, poor build quality tat. (except the old ones like the Dino. And the F40 which although built like a kitcar, is the collect fast car ever for me).

For me I never even noticed or was interested in the Z4 until I saw a Coupe one day at a dealers! The rest is history! :) The coupe is a far better looking Z4. It still turns heads and gets good comments wherever I drive.

However, if I lived where you do, the roadster would make sense also as the sunshine would make up for not having the better looking car!
Then again, in some countries it can get too hot and you end up putting the roof back up to get out of the heat!

i had the choice of both and i went with the z4mr and for my coupe duties my new GTR, i went with the roadster as it felt just rite for me, the z4mr is more rigid than the e46 m3 COUPE so its still very very rigid and was designed as a roadie from the off so dont even worry about it being a crap drive, i ride mine on track very very hard and it performs awesome!! hearing the s54 with the roof down is a complete pleasure i wouldnt buy a coupe or i would have done. but this is all down to personal choice, try both see which one suits you best.

Haha i read the reply from alexman, and then the rest of you guys and completely forgot that i'd started this thread! It only hit me as i read that 300 days a year sunshine bit in a11y's reply!

Well turns out i got a coupe and so far i havent regretted it. Some photos here http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9857. Of course it's still March (a surprisingly cold and wet March! But we really do need the rain anyway) but in the end i went with it for basically the same reasons MarkW, said.

It's a rarer and a more impressive looking machine than the slightly more common roadster. In fact it's the only coupe AND the only Z4 M in my town. So far i've gotten nothing but positive comments.

I wasnt sure about the styling of the coupe, but a chap i know bought an M in Imola Red last week and popped round to show me. Must say i really liked it, but i still enjoy top down cruising so its the roadster for me.

with all the coupe v roadster thing I wonder if actually anyone has tested them on a track a straiight duel between them and sort out. Its easy and settles the matter. It will be interesting. If topgear something it will be great but I doubt it.
Roadster does for me. I love the looks of a coupe. Even though Z4/M was designed to be a roadster unlike many which are originally desinged to be coupes, M coupe looks great must give it to it.

 The Coupe is a looker especially in Red!

Ricks Imola Coupe or "Emma" has seriously made me think about the Coupe alot,
When I bought my M and my previous Z4 I was dead set on the Roadster, I liked the top down driving and its amazing to drive with no roof,

But I do REALLY like the Imola Coupes,
I have driven a few Coupes including my friends coupe and it really feels like a roadster with the top up,
The same dark capsule like environment just with more rear visibility,
The roadster IMO is the best of both worlds as It feels like the Coupe with the top up and is truly awesome with the top down

OH tell me 'bout it. :headbang:

I mentioned to Rick that I'm always very happy with my Z4MR until I see his Z4MC, and then I'm like I want one dammit. Maybe I just gotta hang out with him less. :fuelfire: Or go to his house at night and steal his. :D

Glad I didn't reveal my home address to you mate.

Seriously, if you want my Coupe, I can make a deal with you... yours for only $100k USD.
