Coupe front end refresh

Hi all

I’m refreshing the whole front end of the car and the last thing left now is the lower grill, I think it’s the original one so is looking greyer than a new one and wondering what other people suggest, do I get a new one or are people spraying them black?

They’re not that expensive are they? Seems a shame to go to the effect of getting the front end looking good and skimping on the last bit

Hardly the whole front end, but you would need to remove the bumper, and I think the grille may be rivetted on - can't remember.
 
No sure about being rivetted, but when I got mine , one side of the grille was pushed backwards and was clipped out, so I pulled it back and clicked it back in.
 
Removing the bumper is not difficult, and removing the lower grille from the bumper is not difficult either. There are a lot of plastic clips, but it does just clip in.
 
Removed mine this morning actually, I will be using a back to black solution of some kind, they last long enough and look decent (the non-glossy type that is).

As others have said, front bumper comes off then the lower grille is held on via push-in plastic clips, just be very careful removing them as they can snap.

Back to black will last a couple of weeks before needing it again. It would be a ball ache to do, but Gtechiq C4 plastic protector needs applying , if prepped right, once every 2 years. I have just done the scuttle and other plastic on my Zed and first wash was impressive. I know putting it onto a grille is a mammoth task, but for the time it could be a good thing to do.

I see, thanks for mentioning it I will check it out. Ive used Gtechniq products before for ceramic coating (CSL and Exo I think the names were?) and was very happy with the result.
 
Bumper off is an easy job, like anything new to you just take your time and make sure you have somewhere clean to work on the bumper, no one needs extra scratches! The grill is simple to remove, I replaced mine not long back. Think it was about £47 for a new one from BMW and the push fit washers were a few pence.
