Hi PZ "drives fine but has a slight rattle on the dmf" I expect this is something called 'gearbox turnover' is the normal rattlng sound when the car is idling in neutral, if you dip the clutch it should stop, it's question of what you can live with but is a particular feature of BMW's. DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) failure is a different matter and symptoms are more severe rattles, vibration and bangs but can only be verfied by a visual inspection to check for play and damage, but if its that bad it needs replacing, I would not expect DMF failure at this mileage. Vibration can also be clutch spring failure but vibration is felt on the car floor. Another posibility is the propshaft rubber donut. There has been lots about this on the forum before about 'turnover rattle'.

I wouldn't even mention the rattle. My E46 DMF has 275k on it and that's had a slight rattle for the last 150k miles. If anything I'm more worried about the now quite graunchy release bearing!

No need TBH, it will just fade down the list over time. It hasn't been confirmed as sold or not available, so why would it be deleted?
Bit strange that the seller deleted most of his posts on the thread in October but logged in just last week. :?
