Coupe design flaw?

Well, it's been half-heartedly raining miserably all day here, typical English drizzle.

However, I've noticed there's a 'lip' at the bottom of the rear window, and all the water collects in this. It's like a trough. Old Saab 900s had a rubber spoiler with the same problem, except there was a hole drilled in it to let the water out.

As far as I can see, long term this bit is going to go rusty. Any tips or solutions for preventing this, apart from moving to SoCal or only taking it out in dry weather?

Yeah I've noticed it but seeing as my car is garaged it dosen't bother me, we will see how good the paint protection is in a few years eh?

Nah, I found 'a man' to do it yesterday. Trialled him on the wife's 3-series and was all set to go back with the Z4 today but it was raining

Or better yet, just wipe the water up with a shammois or towel. Takes less time than just letting it run out and dry up. 8)

Change the car before it has the chance to happen

That's not a flaw it's a feature. You can clean the window without getting the rest of the boot lid wet since water collects there.

Same thing happens on my coupe. I tend to mop it up with a cloth whenever I see it or simply take the car out for a spin.

Use the rear end for storage instead of your passenger seat and it will drain off whenever you pull into your garage and lift the lid to empty the back end out....

I think the Z4s biggest design flaw is having a hazard warning light switch operated by using the handbrake !

I hit the switch with my knuckle when using the handbrake almost everytime..........

I just wipe it up, but I do see this as a potential issue for cars whose owners let the water sit there.

Well the water comes out of the sky pretty much continuously here. I don't see why they couldn't have put some sort of drain in.
