Well after weeks of tooing and throwing I've/we've made the decision with help from your input (thanks guys   ). I've been keeping an eye on BMW's Approved Used Stock and have found the model with the spec I want. It's an 07 3.0 Coupe si Sport with less then 7k miles. It comes with the following:

Comfort package
Composite Star Spoke 108 8/8/1/2 x 18
Cruise control
Hi-Fi loudspeaker system
Individual Piano Black interior trim
Front seat heating
Sun protection glass
Windscreen with green shade band

I would have like a Beige leather interior, but beggars can't be choosers. Mind you at £24k it's hardly beggars territory ( ) and is 1k over budget, but I still think it's reasonably good value, as the same car would have been about £34k just over a year ago.

My local dealership are calling me tomorrow with regard to them bringing it over. I'm going to try for £500 pounds off as one of the alloys is curbed and it has 3 scratches on various panels which won't polish out but I know will cut out of the lacquer with some 2000 w&d and some rubbing compound (after all, it's what I do for a living  ). Failing that I'll deal direct with the dealership where the car is, as they're part of a different group. It just means another 120 mile round trip if I need to go there again.

UK guys, what's your experience on a bit of bartering with BMW dealers. I got some 1/2% of my Mini from Park Lane when I bought it, but that was only because we were in a marketing partnership with them at the time.

I just need an insurance quote now. I'm hoping it's not going to be too much of a shock as the JCW Cooper S is group 18.

Roll on the sleepless nights :P

Regards
Not so undecided

Nice decision mate. Good looking car.

Re: discounts - I got 5% on mine but it was new - I'd push for more than £500 if I was you. Worth a try anyway.

Good luck - let us know how you get on

Great looking car

i didnt get much of a discount on mine :( though I thought it was already a good price and they throw some extra stuff in...

Depends how much money is in the car really, it varies from dealer to dealer. I got £3k off mine but it was overpriced to start with.... on my old M3 I got £400 off but that was a keenly priced car; both main dealers. £500 should easily be achievable but you should be able to get the kerbing and scratches sorted as well - not a £500 deduction for that reason, if that makes sense.

Nice car  Thats Stephen James Ruxley my friend works at Blackheath branch they are the group i was going to buy from but ended up getting my car from Parklane who are very keenley priced would have paid a lot more localy and i got £500 off the price straight away but Park Lane have a huge stock of cars so like to shift them quickly.

They should prep the car before you pick it up including removing scratches and kerbing just hope they do not use the same cowboys Park Lane use my wheel repairs are a joke

Welcome aboard

Cheers guys  ,

Spoke to my local dealer this afternoon (yep, they open 7 days a week, even bank hols). The salesman said 'to be honest I'd deal with that dealer direct, as they're outside our group. We’d have to buy/trade the car and get it up here, so there's less chance of any movement on the price'. I appreciated his honesty. So I can see at least 1 more 120 mile round trip  .

Just got a quote off Confused.com for £439 (comp). I'll try adding it to my trader policy tomorrow.

Looked up the road tax today (again :? ) and it's going to be £300 for next year, the same as the Mini was going to be :headbang: .

I'm feeling both excited and nervous, as it's the most expensive car I've bought :driving:

I'll keep you posted.

Nearly decided

Linked to some of your pics.

Dealing direct isn't a problem, I'd try for another £500 off, you should be able to get that, although I suppose £24k is a pretty keen price for an 07 anyway. Wouldn't worry about the road tax, after finance, depreciation and fuel costs it's nothing.

Well, I've gone and done it :? :o :D . I'm the proud owner of the above Coupe

Tried my best poker hand with the dealer and went for 1k off. To which they replied they'd only just dropped it 2k (a likely story  ). So I went with the old 'I'll meet you half way ploy'. But the boss was a hard cookie and countered that with £250. I came back with £300 and I'll do the deal over then phone now! It worked, so I've got £300 to spend on bread and water now  .

Picking the car up Saturday when the rim and light scratches will have been sorted.

I guess I'll have to change my forum name now :driving:

Congratulations Rog!

A great looking car, a real beauty - and a good price too. Well done

Enjoy the sweet anticipation between now and Saturday........

Thanks for all your comments guys. As you can see from the time of this posting they'll be no early night for me tonight  .

Wondermike thanks for linking the pictures, I couldn't see how to do it

I'm pleased with the price. Just doing myself a todo list for tomorrow to make sure all is ready for the new baby Saturday. Do you think I should hang a mobile from the ceiling in the garage, it gets very dark out there at night :| :( :? :o

I thought the price was pretty good before so well done, at least it covers the wheels........... ish.

Enjoy.

Cheers

Congratulations for the new car, Rog!
