Coupe buying advice

Ah yes Mulit-function steering wheel is an option, does it have parking sensors? (hard to see on the pics) Because then it may be safe to say its got the comfort pack. The wheels were an option, the seats are standard sports seats. I can see it has the storage pack and sun protection glass (tinted rear windows & rear windscreen)

it also looks at though it may have bluetooth from the picture but again hard to see.

I understand the options dont really bother you but they will affect my valuation.. If I do it based on just these options:

Comfort Pack (MFSW, Storage pack, PDC, Mirror stuff),
18" 108 Alloys
Xenons
Heated Seats
Sun Protection Glass

The original list price of the car would have been £35,000 OTR. At approximately 4.5 years of age Im going to say the mileage is average and the condition is average-poor.
I price it at :

£13,775 Superb AUC condition
£12,475 Good Retail Condition
£11,975 Good Private Condition
£10,975 Poor Private Condition

So I think its good value if all the bits are fixed and you are happy with all the other niggles you mentioned. ..

PS its a sport not an SE

Nicely done! So it has bluetooth, plus hi-fi speaker system as well which are two more bonus options driving the value up ever so slightly more..

Thanks for the info guys, much apreciated.

I will give the garage a call and see if I can sort something out.

Kind regards

OK,

So going against some of the advise but going with some other advice I have decided to go for the car.

I have offered £11550 on the condition that the door seal is replaced, any paint scuffs/ scatches are rectified (on the door edges for example), confirmation in writing from BMW that the first service was carried out (the stamp is missing from the book but they say they can confirm it was done), full valet inside and outside, minimum 6 months MOT, and as a final swetener I have asked for at least 1/2 a tank of fuel as the red light was on when I test drove it.

Am currently waiting for them to send details of their warranty and finance agreement such that I can read through.

They offered Gap insurance at £350 but I have a quote from online for £90 back to invoice cover for 3 years, so they are going to try and match it.

Feel a little nervous but I dont think it is a bad deal. Going to take it to a local indendant for a full once over once i get it to check for any potential warranty work.

Fingers crossed

I am sure it will be fine.

Can you take it to an Indy to check the gunk around the oil cap was nothing special?

Thats the first thing I am going to do, if it is just due to condensation as a result of multiple small trips then it may well dissapear during the drive home (70 miles).

Looking on the internet most cases of this seem to be harmless and there was not that much under there.

Have checked out the warranty from the dealer, not great the usual 3rd party stuff. Covers head gasket and cylinder head (though not cylinder head cracks or damage). My sisters Fiance owns his own garage so will get it checked out.

Have you checked to see if you can get a BMW Mondial warranty on it?

It's quite a lot @ £500 year (with £100 excess) but I personally think its worth it.

Anything picked up on the pre warranty inspection won't be covered for obvious reasons.

Car drove fine, noticed a slight ticking on idle but as I would use it as an every day runner I dont think the infamous ticking will be a problem for me?

It should not tick, maybe just for a couple of seconds when starting in very cold conditions. Try to make sure that the owner has not warmed the engine up before your visit - and start it from complete cold. After a couple of seconds, ticking should be gone. Otherwise it's a possible concern.

I am not too worried by the extremely minor ticking that I heard after a very short trip. It is certainly no where near as bad as the videos I have seen online for other N52 engines.

But I will get it all checked out whilst still under warranty, from what I understand the N52 ticking is due to a lack of oil on the hydraulic lifters on cold starts usually after a few small trips. I intend to use my car as a daily runner (50-60 miles a day) so I will hopefully not be seeing this problem.

I have heard reports of 0W 40 oil seemingly solving the problem, I did use a 0W 30 oil on my old 3.0i and it did sound much smoother than the oil originally in there.

Will look into the Mondial Warranty.

Bmw don't do inspections, they just not cover the first month.

But they do offset the first 30 days so you get a full year (as I just found out while checking as I'd not had a renewal)

Go for it! You'll smile every time you buckle up
