Coupe alloys.. Alpina D01 or CSL

I am still in the hunt for an E86 Coupe, I am already looking at a few bits and bobs to do to it once I find one.

First being wheels.. Lots of people do go for CSL reps which was my first choice until I stumbled across a pic of one with Alpina D01's on which looked amazing.
Whichever I go for, they will be getting refurb'd in 'flash chrome' so I do not necessarily need to buy brand new ones.

Can anyone recommend a supplier of replicas and also offer any advise on whether to get 18 or 19's?

Tyre wise, I will not be using run flats and will go with whichever rubber is the highest regarded on here (Kumho ecsta le sport 39 were the general favourite on the NC MX-5).

I've read a few reports saying not to touch the suspension and that larger wheels can make the handling worse, but also on here that people have had no issues.
I do not mind lowering the car (I put BC Coilovers on my previous motor) and plan on having the wheel alignment sorted.

Any help / tips / knowledge will be much appreciated!!

:D it's a tried , tested & clearly successful formula but after almost 6 years on the forum i reached csl rep saturation a long time ago :oops: I can see the appeal of genuine ones adding kudos to the ///M cars but otherwise not for me :cry:

That’s good Ben but for me knowing there are so many would put me off. Each to their own they are a nice wheel. But I couldn’t ever do it. I am just giving my opinion. Every z4 meet i have been to there is at least one car with them more often than not more. That’s a big turn off for me. I like to customise my car so that it’s the only one like it. But that’s me and I am not knocking anyone else’s choice.

I've got CSLs and love them - I don't care if other people have them, I've done enough beyond that to make my car look unique - alloys alone don't make a car unique. I had some black cades on previously, and they got massive comments where ever I went, but I still went back to the CSLs.

At the end of the day, how many times a year are you going to be around a load of other Z's that have the same alloys? If you go to meets etc maybe 5-10. The rest of the time I NEVER see anybody with them on...usually you see MV2s, 108s and 224s - all of which don't even come close to looks of the CSLs imho.

Don't let others talk you out of it. If you like CSLs then go for it. Mine are 19" Riva DTMs in hyper silver and I've just added some Kumho rubber to the rears on a recommendation from Mr Wilks - so far I am very happy. I've had my car lowered on Eibach's and was getting bad arch rub afterwards on the front. Just make sure you get the right width of alloy on the front. Mine are 8J so need 215 rubber on the front. If you get some that are 8.5J you can easily put 225 rubber on. Rears are 255, 35.
 
Get the CSL reps if you want. Not everybody has them as suggested above and they do exactly the same as a genuine set. A certain member above changes his wheels like the wind so I wouldn't take much notice there either :wink:
 
What would put me off most Alpina wheels I've seen is the number of spokes - they'd be a barsteward to clean!

I'd happily put CSLs on mine because I like them - I don't really care if other people have them. Why does that matter?

But I've got some 224s waiting for a refurb - I know, predictable. But I like them and it's my car! :P

Lots of people say that just from looking at them, but the Alpina Dynamics are surprisingly easy to clean due to the parallel spoke gaps - especially if they've got a coat of something like Gtechniq C5.
