Gents, Ive concluded there is no way everyone here drives at PSL...therefore I am curious as to what type of protective devices you guys are employing.
I am in the process of setting up the following, should be done within the next few months, I already have some of the pieces :
Valentine One
Xeroxed Plate
Laser Shield
Laser Veil G4 (waiting for release)
Shifter ZR4 (waiting for tests)

And maybe a Uniden, havent decided whether to go with scanner or basic CB setup...

Here's an idea. Obey your local traffic laws/speed limits, and spend the money that you would've spent on those stuffs for the tracks and auto-x's instead.

For shits and grins I take one of our home hair driers, park on the side of the road and point it at drivers. The reactions I get are classic.

I dont see the problem with being 10 miles over at 12am when the only car you can see is a mile away from you :roll: but the troopers sure seem to. Not has there ever even been a correlation between speed and accidents. On the forums a lot of people like to pretend they drive like the perfect citizen at the perfect speed, while in reality they probably treat themselves to a little excess once in a while but would never want to damage their e-reputation :roll:

In my neck of the woods (WA and OR) you can cruise all day at 9mph over the posted limit and no trooper will lift a finger. I go by speed trap cars all the time and they never even look twice at me for 9 over.

I went with a cheaper solution.
Vanity plates that read DOCTOR
I have had cops pull behind me while I was obviously speeding but quickly they move on. I heard that cops rarely ticket nurses or doctors which is not necessarily always true but it worked for my mother and sisters ( RN's) who always play that card when they get pulled and for the most part they get off.
I have never been pulled over since having my vanity plates.( knock on wood)

Alan I am in your neck of the woods and was with the WSP for 27 years, was a member of the command staff so I know from where I speak. There is no written or unwritten rule about any tolerance on speed over the limit. LIMIT being the key word here. You may at your pleasure go under the speed limit. If the trooper is in a pissy mood he may, and has probably given a ticket for 1 mile over. And if he is in a bad mood or not, normally if they see countermand items like radar detectors or other like devices you may find yourself with a ticket for improper lane change, disobeying an officer, bad breath or whatever.

Also please be advised of the aggressive driver task force. They are diving things like BMWs, Mustangs, Chargers, pickup trucks, SUVs, Corvettes and a lot of hot cars. All unmarked. That guy or gal smiling at you and challenging you to a road race, may have a campaign hat on the seat next to them and a blue light and you will find yourself in handcuffs faster than you like. They are putting in all kinds of nice devices in the road bed with cameras so you may even get a ticket in the mail and never see a trooper.

If you speed through speed traps, what ever they are, you were probably just one of the many and they can’t catch them all. If you would like to have a little test, I know the district commander down there and we can test your theory. Now having said all that stuff, I drive like a maniac in the Zed and you will probably see me in the “stony lockup” one of these days facing a reckless driving charge.

I am very careful to not trip the "aggressive driver" alarms out on the freeway and I have seen a number of the cars they use down here to catch folks. Unless you have seen one of them with all lights ablaze there is no external clue as to who is driving the car and what it is - WSP has done an amazing stealth job with those cars.

I try to make a point of being rock solid in staying in my lane, no cell phones (I hate drivers with them anyway) and no distractions when I am out on the freeway so as to not trigger the scrutiny that would leave a trooper with an itch to nail me and so far that has proven to be a useful approach.

I use my track time to get the wild and crazy driving urge out of my system where I can let loose knowing that there is no oncoming traffic, no driveways, no intersections, no kids, etc. and someone controlling entrance onto the live track. Just did one yesterday so the urge to play will be low for a while now :yeah:

I am afraid that roadster participation at HPDEs is an era that is rapidly coming to and end. They have been axed by the Audi Club, many BMW CCA chapters and I suspect more bans are coming given our liability adverse legal system. As a long time avid track nut this is one of the reasons I dumped my 2 year old Honda S2000 for my Coupe.

Unfortunately for us it is not a matter of right and wrong - it is simply a matter of budget. For example, if you look at recently published research on effect of red light cameras, those cameras were projected to yield certain monetary gain, but since they work so good, fewer drivers run red lights where they are installed, so some cities decided to shut some of those down
Same with speedtraps. My bet is with US economy slowing down we would see more and more of those to fill up growing budget deficit...

I remember reading the same thing - it IS indeed a matter of revenue, which is why I am doing everything in my power to avoid a hefty slap on the wrist
