Cough syncope

Sorry John, that’s the last thing you need, if needed the e-bike will help, but please wear a helmet, just saying you know with your luck. Hoping for a positive outcome tomorrow

Isn’t it crazy that you can use an e-bike on the road but an e-scooter is illegal :headbang:

Sorry for you health problems John. If you are think of buying an e-bike, do your research and buy from a specialist. Halfords will fix you up with a cheap and heavy starter bike like the one Argyll Andy linked to, but there may be better options out there for you.

 I know f@@k all about electric bikes.

Daft indeed. What id the difference?

To be honest I think any think assisted with a motor should be termed a motor vehicle. Other wise we end up with even more complicated rules. I note the new Highway code rules come into force tomorrow, giving cyclist more defined rights of way at junctions and roundabouts. The good news is some of these motorised bikes are faster than your car in town any way, so should not get in the way like us poor old sods that still use our legs for power. :D

Enough thread drift. Hope things get sorted John.

The new rules don’t just affect cyclists, pedestrians are now at the top. So as an avid walker I’m going to feel a whole lot more secure when walking down a country lane and a fleet of cyclists decide to storm pass without a by your leave :poke:

Well okay I’m not going to feel any more secure but at least I’ll have the right to swear at them and know I’m in the right :D

I walk around 100mile per month. I avoid walking on lanes like I avoid Covid. The rules have always been there as I see it, good that they are being emphasised more. Thank goodness for living in such a open free part of the country.

I ride a full suspension Trek e bike and they are what you call pedal assist e bike. You have to pedal to make them work and the motor assist cuts out at 15.5mph making them legal to use on uk roads, anything above the 15.5 mph is then your own leg power and you can soon tell you are pedaling a 24 kg bike. They are also not a free ticket for an easy ride, it just allows you the maybe ride more techy harder climbs without you getting off.
My ride this morning with four other eebs took us on a 33mile ride with 3600ft climbing around Curbar edge. ended to ride with an average speed of 10.3mph and an average heart rate of 153bpm for over a 3 hour ride.
So an eeb would be perfect for you John

:( Gotta ride 11 miles each way everyday though Nige....No way I'm fit enough or that yet and I have asthma now after being on the oxygen. Too slow as well mate.

Hi John,

Sorry to hear of your ongoing health woes :( Lets hope it doesn't put the kybosh on the driving.

If you do go down the electric bike route, its something I've been looking at as a new hobby for this year, currently looking at one of these,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw0Z2gPiMv0

A tad pricey but not your normal looking humdrum bike and look to be fun.

Best wishes,

Tim.

I think it's going to have to be a moped or similar Zeb....using pedals for that amount each day isn't really feasible thinking about it but if it does come to that advice taken, many thanks.

John, like others sorry to hear about your issues, whilst I'm not a medical doctor, I do work for a major health authority and I am in work this morning. I took the liberty of asking a couple of our consultants about the condition you describe.

Its a relatively common condition that seems to affect people, typically with other underlying conditions.

There is an association between this condition and COVID-19, so it may be associated with your recent infection. There are anecdotal reports of drivers suffering this condition. I'm not au fait with the regulations but understand its a disqualifying condition and will need a period of time (maybe 6 months) if it is confirmed to be this condition.

A specialist will need to do a differential diagnosis and quite a few tests to reach a diagnosis, cause and assessment.

That's really very good of you Ed, many many thanks..!

The first time was 3 months ago before I got Omicron, put it down to a one off tbh. I've also read asthma might have an influence so as you say we need some tests. Docs in the morning.

I hope all goes well tomorrow.

Just came to this thread and hope all goes well for you and there will be no need for all the alternatives options.

On a positive note illnesses like epilepsy which can have similar outcomes can be controlled by medication and sufferers being then allowed to drive. Good luck

Many thanks MrT and Nanu.

Not particularly worried it's more the huge inconvenience not being able to drive is going to have, couldn't have come at any worse time...

C est la vie I guess.

As you say terrible timing, but at least it sounds like you have found a solution to your premises problem.

We don't realise how much of a problem not being able to drive actually is, until it happens! Hope you get it all sorted.

Just picked this up John.

I sincerely hope for a good result tomorrow fella! All best wishes for that positive outcome you deserve.

Ive got to admire your 'C est la vie' attitude - stay positive.

John, just read this you've been through it recently mate :o . I wish all the best & hope everything goes OK at the docs tomorrow .

Since you arent up for an e-bike (which I would have recommended as well, get fitter while having the support of an electric motor) without being funny, a class 3 mobility scooter is permissible to be driven on the road without a licence, you will get 8mph out of the bad boy though there is a 150kg weight limit :poke:
