Cost of Maintenance

So went through my cars old invoices to digitise it and figure out if there's any big jobs coming.

Wondering if the total maintenance cost of 6 years of ownership is inline with other people's.

Much of it seems to be annual servicing, couple of wheel bearings, brakes were serviced a concerning number of times (considering one is currently binding), and a thermostat failure.

I once summed up all the costs for a car I used to own (DC2 Integra Type R) and after that decided not to do it ever again For the Z4 I have all the invoices printed and an excel file with the work done with a date, part number(s) and mileage.

The cost/mile in that middle year was so low because work paid for over half the mileage. The 3rd year included Insp 1, a new bonnet, new radiator fan and suspension refresh.

The Z4M was about 25% more expensive to run, per year, for an annual mileage of 5-7k (not comparable now as it's not my daily anymore).

I track all work & modifications in one per car, but not fuel/tax/etc (running costs) in spreadsheets. Sometimes nice to look back at, sometimes horrifying. (I don't include my labour/time in these figures if I did the work.)

The 2.5i cost £3,351.69 over 3 years, 10 months and 8,671 miles. Averages at: £2.55/day, 6.27 miles/day. £2,784.15 spent on parts.

The 3.0si has cost £4,383.34 over (so far) 1 year, 4 months and 8,150 miles. Averages at: £9.27/day, 17.23 miles/day. £3,537.14 spent on parts.

Pretty pleased I've done nearly the same mileage in both and owned the 3.0si for much less time. I was sailing in Scotland for the first six weeks of ownership too, so really it's in even less time. Definitely been using it more

I think the big difference in spend too is I've gone through the 3.0si before some things broke and knowing what needed replacing from the 2.5i some of that has been done in one hit on the 3.0si. Replaced all four corners shocks/springs instead of just the fronts, replaced water pump/thermostat, all four tyres in one hit rather than trying to limp two through a winter, etc. Also upgraded the headlights so they are moderately decent.

It's too depressing on the ///M. Just finished off my 3rd set of tires in the past 6 months. That alone is probably ~$4000 USD. Doesn't include suspension refresh, fluids, brake pads/rotors, etc.

Here's mine for my Z4MC, from the log I was keeping on Pistonheads. Not kept it that up to date with the car being off the road a lot more than intended.

Annual average costs really reduced once I stopped doing 30,000 miles and 5-10 trackdays a year in it.

Wow, that's a scary amount!

I do a spreadsheet for each of my cars too, but don't do such a detailed breakdown. Over 6 years and 23K miles the overall total for my MC is just over £20K, but it's a price worth paying.

By comparison my 3.0Si Coupes cost just over £11K for 22,000 miles over 5 and a half years, so a bit of a bargain!
