The computer tells me i need rear brakes sorted. Stratstone in Derby have quoted me £275 for a brake service.
Its an AUC from them still in the 12 month warranty (Bought the car in April 2013) so will end up getting them done there.
Just wondered if the price is about what any other dealer is charging?
Not that surprised at the cost just curious about what anyone else has paid.

I've not had brakes done yet (and they're even more costly on the 35i)... perhaps try this site, not sure if it will help; http://www.maindealerdiscount.com

I've just tried the site and so long as I'm happy to travel 40 miles, my rears would cost £189 (pads only, not discs). So.. I'd shop around.

Good site thanks.
However on this occasion the nearest one is 76 miles away. But they are quoting £195.

I'll certainly keep the details for anything else though.

Cheers,

I have done 36,000 so assuming the pads are the originals its not done too bad.

The only reason its a main dealer that will get the business is to preserve the remainder of the warranty.

I have the petrol pump making the funny noises so plan to have them investigate/replace before April arrives.

Changing the rear pads turned out to be one of the simpler jobs. Easy diy.
But i supose by the time you have costed original items, say pads £50 and wear detector £20, then the torx tools, for the peace of mind get someone else to do it.

Don't think it's that easy as the electronic parking brake is a bugger to hold off....

I believe the pads are about £120 and plus labour. My dealer charges £350 for the entire job

To fit the pads, release the brake normal fashion, unbolt the calipers, unscrew the two torx bolts holding the gearbox on. Then using allen key, back off the adjuster, remove pads, fit new, bolt all back together, refit. Apply park brake and it adjusts itself, simples!

I paid ~£80 inc VAT for rear brakes fitted at a place near Leicester http://www.auto-technik.co.uk

Might be worth the drive for you

You can get a set of rear pads for under £50 and fit them yourself in under an hour! Of course this really only applies to those of us who know how to wield a few spanners . . . . . . and have them :-D

My local dealer wants c. £260 for rear brake pad replacement
A local indie wants £172

Main dealer discount came up with a few around £175 but they are all miles away from me
