So I clay barred my car today and noticed rust on both front wings and rear wing. I took the car down to my local BMW dealership for inspection, they said that they won't be able to carry out the work without any proof of service history which I find hard because the body work is not a mechanical item that needs servicing. Anyone can tell just by looking at the car that it's been well looked after but it didn't come with a service book.

During the inspection they said he would replace all the wings rather then sanding as it will come back again so obviously I want this done under warranty especially as it's only a 2006 roadster.

Any advice on this?
 
Bodywork check is part of the service schedule which is why they require it. As you say though makes no sense.

Only thing I can suggest is you ring the special BMW number to find out which dealers the car visited and on what day so you can then ring them to get the service history. With that if it's complete BMW hopefully will honour.

Where about is the corrosion?, If it's anywhere near the arches they will probably have the get out of clause of untreated stone chips FBMWSH or not. Either way if it's localised surface rust you should be able to cure it by carefully grinding back to bright steel with a dremel or similar.

I normally get shot down for insisting on FBWSH as independents are often quoted as being better. Just another example why that small saving on an independent could cost you dear in the end.

Not OPs fault obviously here as he bought second hand.
 
Cheers, I'll check out that BMW number and see if I can track some history down. The car was serviced from the independent dealership a few hundred miles ago so they should have picked up on that rust shouldn't they.

On both front wings it's centre above the wheel and the rear wing is where the two panels meet below the fuel cap.

If I can't prove any service history because I havent got the book I'm not going to leave it as they said to replace the wings it would be a couple of grand!!

I had mine done under warranty last year. Replaced the passenger's door and bonnet due to corrosion. All done under warranty and costing me nothing. They too needed my proof of servicing to see if the correct procedures were carried out. I think its best to trace back the cars history and try to get any proof of service you can so you can get the corrosion sorted.
 
Also be a benefit when I get the log book so I can track down the previous owner, in the third.

In the mean time what's the speciality BMW number?

No evidence at all. Rybrook confirmed that it's all straight and true. Plus the hpi check says no accidents. Not saying that it's not been in one but all panels were original. Bmw seen to think that it was down to poor paint finishing which allowed corrosion to start.
 
Finally heard back from my local BMW dealership about my warranty claim and they've agreed to replace all 4wings!! All I need to do now is get it booked in then I can finally correct the paintwork!
 
Between 2006-2011 it was religiously in the same BMW dealership every 6months for checks then between 2012-2015 it was non BMW and can't get hold of the previous owner.
