Correct oil filter

Hi, maybe someone could help me out.
I tried searching for this, but couldn't find anything to confirm.
I bought some oil for my E86 3.0si 2007 from opieoils that came with a Mahle OX387D1oil filter.
The issue is I'm not sure it's the right one, it's got a rubber seal glued to the filter and it included a drain plug that is made out of plastic.
I've seen different filters available and thought they come with a crush washer.
Has anyone fitted these without issues?

Mann HU816X

Mann I believe are the OEM filters, I had a k&n one before which the vanes collapsed and made a horrible noise. I also had a wrong size one sent from eurocarparts as their fitment details on their site were wrong.

The Hu816x is what Ive got going in my e86 coupe next week. They should come with a crush washer, and 2 oil seals for the filter housing.

Using the Realoem parts number on the AutoDoc parts site brought these back

As to sump plug oem is/was metal part number brings these back

Some come with copper sump plug washer, not sure if its a flat one or crush type

I've also had problem with the vanes collapsing with the Bosch filters... see here: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=120871&hilit=bosch

As Thermaltake says, the MANN HU816X is the oem and seems to work the best. Here is a list of service items for your N52:

I would purchase as much as possible from opieoils.co.uk

Thank you for the info everyone . Looks like they sent me the wrong part.
I already bought Millers Nanodrive 5w30, now I just need a different filter and some better weather

Opie Oils are very good with customer service. I ordered a whole lot of service stuff from them and it was one bottle of oil short.
I rang them at lunchtime and 7.30 the next morning the courier was at my door with the missing bottle.

So give them a call, I'm sure they'll help you out.

So I just finished chatting with someone from opieoils, he double checked it and apparently the Mahle filter is supposed to fit as well.
That's what they're supplying if you buy an oil service kit from them.
It would help knowing someone else fitted it without issues.

The dimensions look fine to me and it would be very unusual for Opie to get it wrong.

Most websites seem to list it for the 3.0l E89 but not the E85/E86 which is odd as it’s the same engine.

Just be aware of how tight a fit it is on the basket when it comes to fitting. It should rotate fairly easily.

I bought HU816x just in case as well. Also not sure I want to use the supplied plastic plug.
That's my first oil change on this car, that's why all the confusion :D

What drain plug is on there at the moment then?
The N20 engines have a plastic plug as standard, changed at every oil change.

I haven't done it yet, but when I was under the car I'm pretty sure I saw it's metal. Also I suspect the plastic won't even fit.
Even though the dimensions are right, im not sure why opieoils are selling Mahle instead of HU816x for e86.

Been servicing cars all my life. The Z4 does come with a helpful panel giving access to the sump plug BUT i have found that however careful you are the initial surge of warm oil will blast a certain amount of oil into the undertray cover. If you are as fastidious as I am this is annoying as the oil then drips out onto the floor and cleaning the undertray in situ is not easy. In the last couple of years I have used a fairly cheap oil suction contraption that saves time and effort and it really does suck the majority of oil out from the filler hole. I have measured the amount of oil extracted and it is the full 6.5 litres. I would recommend this method rather than removing the sump plug.

I did think about getting one tbh, could I ask where did you buy it from? I can't say I love going under car, it always feels risky, even if using axle stands.
Do you suck the oil from the filter housing?

The N52 of course has no dipstick so no easy access to the sump from above. If you are telling me you managed to get a tube down into the sump from the oil filler cap i’d say you were swinging on my todger!

If its one without a dipstick in the sump then the oil vaccum sucking aint going to work, if its got a dipstick then its simple to suck all the oil out using this sort of kit. I have a Pela hand pump and an electric oil suction pump I picked up in Lidle or Aldi, both work very well and scavange all the oil out of the sump. Must admit when I got the Z4 I did use the sump plug to drain it but probably use the pumps next time.

It'd be nice not to go under the car, but if there's no way to suck it out I guess it will have to be the old school method.
On the other hand weather is a lot nicer so I might do it today or tomorrow.
I'd like to go for a nice drive before the damn lockdown :headbang:

Apologies my Zed still has the dipstick. Whoever thought about removing them should have been shot.

So the oil is nice and new now. Car is a lot quicker, I estimate 30hp more
I didn't use Mahle filter and there's no way to fit a supplied plastic plug, it's just way too big.
So don't buy opieoils sercive pack with filter.
Oil was quite black after only 6-7k miles, I'm not surprised people don't listen to bmw and service them more often.
