CORRECT AUX PART NUMBER - BMW OR MINI ???

Could any of you guys out there please shed some light on the correct part number for the AUX cable to connect the ipod to the Zed’s stereo.

I have been given the BMW version from Gannett which is:- AUX In kit part no: 65120153502

From what I have read on this forum the Mini version is supposed to be cheaper, I have spoken to Mini today and they where unsure exactly what I wanted ? has anybody bought the mini version and could you please tell me the exact part number ?.....

Thanks, i tried that one but they didnt have a clue what i was talking about. They mentioned other kits which plugged into the front of the stereo ? which isnt the correct one for the z obviously.
 
See my posts in the Aux DIY thread and the MINI part number is listed. I have used that one exclusively for several cars :wink: The part number should be the same in the UK and Europe as it is in the US.
 
I've just had the same problem, the part numbers are not the same in the UK - I have ordered part no 65120308752 which seems to be the mini one

Does this mean that with this part number its a straight forward plug and play and you can utilize the CD changer at the same time without the need to faff with cutting and splicing wires etc
 
wasnt aware any cutting and splicing wires was involved :o

I had a similar plug already in place but I assumed was the cd changer but others seem not to have that. could've been bluetooth... but it was relatively simple to use one plug by moving the pins about...
 
& no splicing *ever*

You may have to merge the leads (i did) but you use a small screwdriver to undo clips and it's done in 2mins.

I believe mine needed doing because I had nav - the cable to supply the voice of the directions over the stereo uses this, so does bluetooth, so does the aux. All three now sit happily in my one socket and work a treat.

it's locates the aux on the panel under the heater controls, you can buy it as a part aparently

I did this mod some time ago, i also kept the changer as i had a spare socket in the back of the head unit to simply plug it into, it really couldnt have been simpler. I have the carver amp dsp? stereo system if that makes any difference. I would position it under the heater controls, looks much tidier when in use. I just drilled a hole in the removable panel, again this was very easy and i have limited skills! ...i just have the jack visible, not the black background as the picture above, just keeps it even tidier as you cant even see it when it not plugged in.

Thanks for that. It seems to be recessed into the panel. Does anyone know if the panel part was updated to accomodate the socket and, if so, what the new part number is?
 
Thanks for that Gannet. Looks more complicated, but I love the look of the new panel so I think I'll have to give it a try.

Having reviewed the linked thread it seems that the wiring would be the sticking point. By the look of the cable they've used, a fully-DIY cable between the jack-socket and the head unit won't be appropriate as it incorporates a simple PCB circuit. (Does the retro-fit kit that you've used also include the circuit? That must be how the head unit detects the unoccupied Aux. socket once it's installed.)

I think the best way will be to base the build on the retro-fit kit used by the members here. I can clip the jack-plug female off the end of the retro-fit cable and wire that into a plug to connect into the Aux-In socket. From the Bimmerfest thread it seems that a four-pin plug is required, along with a few pins. Doesn't seem too tricky.
 
Success! Just finished fitting the post-facelift Aux-In and I'm most pleased with the result.

They weren't kidding about getting the vents out, what a pain! Those designers have a sick sense of humour.

Before putting the dash back together I tested the sound from my N95 and, oh no, Distortion and low volume! But just before I slit my wrists, I tried a different jack-to-jack lead and it sounded fine.

Once I've calmed down I'll update the How To with part numbers and process for fitting the Aux-In in the post-facelift style.
