Corona virus means my coupe might go..😭

OP, so yo should now be able to keep your Coupe if it doesn't use up more than 80% of your normal salary... not just the bankers getting a bail out anymore...

Thats for employed people in which case you can breath a sigh of relief but Im a black cab driver so self employed... statutory government sick pay for self employed of £94 a week is what I'm supposed to live on and support my family of wife and 2 young children with apparently.

If you think the UK were delayed in their response to the impending pandemic, you should see how Australia has behaved. The government and most of the population have buried their collective head in the sand at Bondi (popping up only to panic buy loo roll) :headbang:

My current contract is up soon too, so don't know how I'll find another one if the lockdown lasts more than a few months.

Maybe my client will extend the current contract, but who knows?

Similar situation here , been a self employed sub contractor in the building industry for 32 yrs , never had a single penny handed out , all ive ever done is work , pay taxes & attempt to fund my retirement from my income whilst also being expected to fund the retirement of civil servants :x that in itself has pained me greatly , its wholly unjust ,antiquated & totally unfair but to see yesterdays announcement regarding the 80% funding of all employed but leaving the self employed to go begging at the tax credits counter really does stick in the throat .
This situation is like no other , ever & to make that divide between the employed & self employed is effectively telling 5 million people they are different  we aren't , we pay NI & tax just the same .
Fortunately i can support myself but i know many self employed who can't & can only hope they think this over , change their plans & bail out everybody equally .
Total sympathy for the op here , hope things work out for you & all others on the forum whether self employed or directly employed .

... & in Kent was a normal weekend.

Shopping centre car parks full, DIY stores like bees round a honey pot when I drove past.

I don’t think the Gov needs to apply its Herd Immunity strategy, it’s already in full swing :fuelfire:

Although this might be your darkest hour as a car owner, it conversely just might be your defining moment as a father who, during a time of great uncertainty, places the well being of his children above his own. You are a good father and have my respect for the actions you are about to take.

Same here.. self employed. Paid more tax than my mates the last 10 years, and another tax on account every year...

Also give employment to other staff....

It really is disgusting on the governments part for us self employed guys.

I was self employed but my contract ended this January, naturally.

All interviews that were lined up, now gone, so currently unemployed.

Via LinkedIn, I have offered my services FOC to the NHS if they can use me.

In the meantime, I cannot get home to my family as I'm looking after my vulnerable parents. Plenty of everything we need in the house without stockpiling (bloody crazy that).

I'm in an OK position where I won't need to sell the Z4 (a weekend toy) as my wife is still working. Her job happens to be home based.

Tough on a lot of people but the Govt isn't weighting help fairly IMHO.

OP hope it works out for you.
