Cornwall trip in June - updated PIC HEAVY

St Ives is lovely and full of Artist and Surfer dudes, so no need to head north of Newquay, if you are only there a few days.

Padstow is a mini version of St Ives. We go there a lot. Lovely walks along the estuary and the ferry over to Rock. But it is the wrong side of Newquay, which is likely to be a bottle neck, on the coast road, in June.

Down that end of Cornwall there is plenty to keep you busy. The Minack open air theta is brilliant, you have to book in advance though.

If your after possibly the most beautiful beach in the country, then seek out Kynance Cove, close to the Lizard. Lovely sun trap, but make sure it's not high tide, or most of the best bits will be under water.

Fancy a little Cornish culture, then head for Truro. Fantastic Cathedral. Loads of places to eat in or out. Great shops too. (MrsG tells me)

The Eden project is another well worth the ticket.

Lands end on the other hand, I would drive straight passed.

Hi ruby, we are in carbis bay right now-2mins walk from your hotel


We have a private path from the garden down to the beach, great coastal walk to st Ives & walked the other way this morning to hale.
It's very pretty & we love it here, ps hobblers restaurant in st Ives harbour is very cosy

Hi,

Get yourself down to the Lizard - Cadgwith and Coverack one side Kynance, Mullion and Porthleven the other and only a short drive from St Ives.

I would recommend South Wales and the Gower Coast over Cornwall any day.
Its the same water, similar coast lines, but far less traffic than the M5 and also far less tourists. (A friend of mine took 3 hrs yesterday to get from Bristol to Taunton....)

Carbis Bay is lovely and St Ives is like a quaint cornish fishing village theme park. If the weather is nice it will be RAMMED (think shopping centre at Christmas)
We hated most of it because we took the dogs and St Ives must be the least dog friendly place in Britain.
If you go right (towards the estuary), there's a really nice long (peaceful) beach that goes up the estuary, then you can hop on train at lelant back to St Ives or Carbis bay.

Whatever you do, where ever you go, have a good break and just take it at your own pace, and make your own mind up as to what is s**t and what is good.

I'm sure you'll find some gems.

You will enjoy Cornwall I am sure it is fantastic even when it rains as you can find things to see and do.
Padstow, Newquay, St.Ives down around Lands End, Lizard, Falmouth, Fowey, Polperro are a few. The roads are not that bad either.

Thanks for your input all and the pic Smartbear will check out some of these places and try and get tickets to the open air theatre - weather permitting.

Hi Ruby, we went for a few days in March. Geevor Tin mine was a good, especially the guided tour. Harbour fish and chips next to the lifeboat station in St Ives is good.

We like st Mawes and the Roseland peninsula for walks. Tresanton hotel good for food. The lost garden of Heligon are worth a visit. The Eden project on the other hand - I really didn't get it - why create a Malaysian village in Cornwall? The domes look great from the outside but not worth going in, in my opinion.

I agree st mawes is nice. The rising sun restaurant for fish and chips and there is also a town called Falmouth on the opposite side of the estuary. Lots going on over there.

Hi Ruby, i used to live 10 mins from where you are staying, lots of places to go, i used to work in a very busy restaurant down there so know a few places to eat fairly local to St Ives. PM me if you want any details and i can pass them over to you.

I lived in Penzance which is not far at all from where you are going for 25 years.

I'm planning on going down to St Ives for a week next month in the zed.

Past Cornish holidays have been spent mainly in Looe, nice little harbour town. Fowey is close by, fun to take the car across the river estuary ferry.

Just returned from our 4 day trip to Cornwall. Had a lovely time and didn't find it at all busy. Stayed in Carbis bay near St Ives and managed to squeeze in quite a few other places: St Michaels Mount, Mousehole, the wonderful Minack open air theatre to watch "Private Lives" (you must go if you are in the area), Lizard Point, Kynance Cove and Padstow on the way home today. Thought I'd illustrate with some pics below and wanted to say a big thank you for all your suggestions as they really added to making the trip a good one!
