CoolType.dll and Core DLL error messages - what to do?

Hi IT savvy people, I'm abit stuck with a couple of error messages that I am getting when I try and open PDF files on my netbook running Windows 7 Starter:

AcroR32.exe - System Error
The program can't start because CoolType.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Fatal error
Acrobat failed to load its Core DLL.

:( . What are the most likely reasons for these and I am assuming they are related to why I can't open the PDFs (I have Adobe Reader 9 at the moment)? I've been 'getting around' this by opening another type of a file i.e. avoiding it lol, but alas! I can't do this when only PDF is available :(. Am I right to be alarmed cos .exe file is affected? It's an important part of the computer?

I would appreciate pointers / any help.

I'd uninstall acrobat and install Foxit reader: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader

Acrobat is bloated to death, Foxit is better for reading / viewing PDFs

It sounds like your install of acrobat is corrupted in some way.

Or uninstall Acrobat and then reinstall it. Your current version has obviously been corrupted somehow.

Acrobat certainly does not feel very slick these days.

Thanks guys. Merrsh1 I've never heard of Foxit before. I'll have to look into it.

I've no idea why the Acrobat reader is corrupted, don't use it that often at all and am quite cautious about opening attachments. :headbang:

Possible one of those auto updates that managed to corrupt itself

Hi both, many thanks for your help. I decided to try Foxit Reader. I de-installed Acrobat Reader and installed Foxit Reader. I can open the pdfs fine now
